2 suggestions. I back in when I have to dock on the opposite side. You can manipulate the boat the same way as coming in bow first with a little practice.

However, a boat hook is your friend in situation like this. My boat hook will extend to 12ft, I rarely need it, but it sure comes in handy when I do. Would be a purchase I make right away if I were in your position!

This is the one I bought, good quality and had it around 2yrs on boat. Keep it under one of my side lockers and is only 4'6"-5ft long when closed:

Here is a larger one if you feel its necessary, but harder to store on boat since 13-19ft long:

My slip requires me to back out with my stern going to the port. So I walk the boat out and push the bow to the starboard so I could get under way without using much reverse (which would pull my stern to the starboard side). Coming back in is no problem. I start the turn to the slip at nearly dead still, just using 1 sec bursts to rotate the boat without any stern swing. Once I am lined up I just use taps to come in perfectly straight. After five Gs doing it this way I got a thruster on my 2019. Now I back out, rotate to the right and leave. I still pull into the slip the same exact way. Never using the thruster.
