    G23 engine options

I have heard the G23 needs to be ordered with a big motor to get all that weight out of the water. Please tell us how your experience is with different motors in the G23.

No real world experience yet, but I also heard from someone at Nautique that the 409 will be just fine. Most have been ordered with the 450 and they have yet to even really try the 343 in it (even though it is supposedly an option).

I was in the new Xstar on Saturday for the semi's at the Ft. Worth pro stop and the 7.4 in that thing was money!

Were they able to clean up the wake in FW ? It looked terrible in Acworth.

I have been in a G23 with the 550 and a G23 with the 450. If you're going to be running extra weight or ride with lots of people, go for the 450 at least. I am sure the 409 is fine, but if you're going to spend the money on that boat, you might as well get an engine that can move it properly. I can't imagine the 343 in that boat, although I have confirmed that it is an option.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

Jeff, could you tell a meaningful difference when fully loaded, a difference between the 550 and the 450 ?

It seemed to cause a lot of falls and tended to crumble just as they were hitting the wake. You hear that the 230 is sensitive to side to side weight, well we were always moving around to try and balance the thing out. A lot of 360s that were supposed to be 540s, some 720s that ended up as 540s, etc. Some tricks did not go near as big as planned. A lot of guys were shaking there head when they landed on the other side. You could tell that they were not doing what they planned. Harley told Travis that he was going to throw the double tantrum as his first trick of the second run in the semi's and to make sure to "throw him a bit of a kink" with the wake so he could do it. Travis said he was just running stock, full 74 gallon gas tank, and an extra 500 lbs in lead in the center. There were no sacks in the boat, trust me I looked after the semi's were done....

It was pretty funny when Zane got pissed at me for wearing a Nautique shirt in the boat. Said he was going to go get me another one, but that never happened.

Overall the Xstar was a pretty sweet ride though, the wake was big and nice overall and is on my short list for next year.

I heard a few riders went over to Buxton's G23 demo day Monday. Any truth to that? Also heard alot of riders rode back foot heavy to make up for the rippling wake. Did the boat have porpoising issues?

Any sane person would realize that's BS. I'm sure we won't be seeing any G23's with cracked hulls showing up on PN. And blowing up a PCM tranny? I don't buy it. If there have been issues, they're test mule boats, which are built to work out the bugs.

I have to laugh at the Malibu post. It went from G23 comments (3-4) to pulling tubes.

Any truth to the rumor that the 550's have an overheating issue? I think they are closed cooled.

Closed cooled yes. No info I have heard of on overheating though.

The 550's have a "approximately $20K upgrade" problem. Which gives me the "I can not get that engine" problem...

I think he is asking about the wake on the Xstar on Saturday, which there were no porpoising issues, but dang that bow rides high in the air. As far as the back foot heavy deal I have no idea, didn't hear it mentioned and I was on the starting dock for quite a bit of the day.

The G23 wake from Monday at Buxton was clean, firm and like a freaking brick wall.
