About to lose it! Need your opinion

I need advice on a scenario that has me fuming and want feedback on the best way to handle it. 3 weeks ago I picked up my new 2012 SAN 230 Coastal Edition. This past Monday I dropped it off at my dealer to have a couple small items tweaked.

This week we had several inches (3-5) of rain two nights in a row. I called the dealer to make sure my cover was on and was told indeed it was. Heres the problem - the cover was not put on and my boat is soaked and smells awful. Not only did my boat get soaked my upgraded stereo equipment did as well. Again I was told the cover was on and without saying a word took it home. Check out the photos.

If the cover was on why would the following:

Evidence of water on amps in enclosed compartment
Evidence of water pooled up in side inserts where cup holders are
For cover to be on the tower has to be folded down - my tower speakers have water spots and dirt in them
tried to post video of seats and couldn't get it to work - seats and carpet dripping constantly
red dirt from rain storm in crevices of seats and floor

I am very disappointed and want advice as to how you would handle the situation. Thanks for your advice!

If there is damage (mold, equipment that doesn't work, etc), I would take it back to the dealer and show him the evidence. But my bigger question is why is rain hurting the boat, especially if the plug was out? I understand some people baby their boats (not sure how you are), but they are designed to get wet. Unless they put the cover on once it filled with water, then that's a big problem...

unless they had a cover sport cover on your boat rain and dirt will get into your boat if not under a shelter, unless they put supports in side the boat to keep the water from pooling on top of the cover.

if i don't have all the seats in my boat; even with the cover on water easily gets into the forward most bow section. my cover is from 2008. yours should not let much if any water inside of it, especially not enough to put water in cup holders. i would make them replace all upgraded electronics; give you a free service(like big time service), and let the factory know that they f'd up and you may or may not be needing new oem stereo stuff/linc. a new boat is stupid. i'd also make them gather every salesmen, tech, etc while you tell them how you expect to be treated when you drop 110,000 on something from them. at the very least it should have been wiped down before you got there. quality control is almost more important than the products themselves. dealers lie. don't let them get away with anything. if they dont treat you right then call the factory and they will get on it. they dont like bad dealers.

I would want it outside in the hot sun drying out or inside their shop with fans on it drying out every nook and cranny, followed by a pre-delivery detail. Minimum.

A new boat is not stupid. He bought a new boat. He now has something less than that thanks to a lying dealer (assuming that they did in fact not have the cover on). If it were me, it would be parked back at the dealer right now. Let them clean it up and sell it as a demo boat and take the depreciation hit they just caused. Most people roll over and take it, which is why there are so many other people in this world willing to screw good people over (because they can). Let these sob's know there are consequences to their misdeeds. This is gross negligence. They will fight it, but I would be on the phone with Correct Craft Monday morning.

well Ive been dealing with a new cover from cover sports on our new 2012 SANTE 230 -- and I have to say - Im not nearly as impressed with these covers as many on here are --- and I am FAR less impressed with Brent and his crew (more, much more on that later)

Exactly. Make them eat the diminished value. I bet if it were 120k in cash, the brainpower of the operation would have a lot more respect for it and get their !@#$^&@%$ together. There would still be some don't-give-a-crapz that wouldn't even respect the cash.

It is a very rare occasion the I let anyone be responsible for any of my stuff and I end up happy.

Next they'll want to "work on"....and "make it right" . How about just take care of the thing in the first place.

I'll preface this by saying I am not defending the dealer...

I went through a learning curve with factory cover... It works well but needs to be TIGHT. Before I figured out just how tight it needed to be the cover pocketed water between the windshield and the rear pole terribly. In heavy storms (like it sounds like you had) it would accumulate enough water to reach the vents and drain into the boat. The factory cover can also be put on with the tower up but doesn't seal around the tower legs so a little water will run down them and down inside of the boat (by the cup holders).

It possible your dealer did cover your boat as they said but didn't do it right, which is inexcusable.

I would be furious too, if i came to pick up my boat and it looked like that. However, it really doesn't take much water to leave traces like that, plus they are designed to wet, so nothing will be damaged. Truth be told, I've pulled shrink wrap off boats from the factory that looked worse. The dealers biggest mistake was not making your high-dollar boat look prestine for when you arrived. I don't mean to downplay your anger, as I totally understand it. I'm just saying that customers would be surprised how their new boats look sometimes, before they are delivered. The good news is that a new boat will shine up perfectly.

                        Here is my advise...
Call nautique and explain the scenario. Then call the dealer and explain that you demand it be in the same if not better condition that it was in when you dropped it off. See what they offer you. Give the dealer a chance to fix this. If they don't take care of it then I suggest going to plan b.

                        Attorney, bbb, insurance company etc...

If I pay big $$$ for a new boat. I would expect it to be immaculate just like a new car. If the boat gets wet after the "owners" use then thats up to him/her.

It sounds like you dropped your boat off uncovered, it got rained on and that is the dealers fault?? Not sure I am getting that any more then those who say a boat getting wet ruins it, ROFLMAO. Takes time to put a cover on a tower boat, bet if the dealer charged for it most would consider that a rip off too.

Also as was mentioned, never had a tower cover that did not let some water in, maybe the cover was put on.

While I've been screwed many times by dealers, and I think you got hosed here; I agree with others that it is a boat and will get wet. Pay attention to any possible places water can get into where your amps are. The boat should look exactly the same as the way you gave it to them. You might find a screw driver or flashlight that's not yours, but I started keepin them. Dealers keep the covers off every boat they have until they are sold; rain or shine. IMO, the only thing that needs to be addressed is the condition they return the boat to you, and possibly the amplifier. That and some pride in the job they are doing. It's rough times and they should be kissing your a$$.
