    SV211 compares to what?

Howdy! This is my first post so go easy one! I've been studying past threads, and have come to the conclusion that the SV211 would probably be the best boat for my family in the Nautique line. My kids are 6 and 8. They water ski and wakeboard. My wife skis a little, and I wakeboard a little, all from our little 18' runabout. We also pull the occasional tube when friends or family are over that don't ski or board. We're also very interested in learning to surf, as the wake board wipeouts are getting rough for this 43 yr old to recover from. It's a younger mans game for sure.

With all that said, I don't want to buy a boat I have to modify alot. I want it to do what I want it to do, and do it easily. I've owned a couple i/0's and even a big pontoon(not real proud of that!). But I've never owned a V drive or DD. I've boarded a fair amount behind an X star, and while I think it's a great boat, it's probably not a good fit for my family, since we do have skiers/tubes. Which leads me to my question(s)...

    1) In basically stock configuration, do you think the SV211 would best meet my needs? If not the SV211, then what?

    2) What other boats from other manufacturers would compare to the SV211? MC, Bu and Tige are probably the other brands I'd consider.

    3) I'm looking for used 2005-2007, 21-23' range. Mid 30's price point.

    Thanks so much!

The 211 sounds like it would fit your needs well. You could also consider a Ski 206? That boat would give you a better ski wake, with its DD, and likely plenty of wake for some boarding. A Prostar 209 or 214 could also be a decent option, but naturally I'd recommend a Nautique. You can't beat the PCM powerplant.

Might also want to check out the 216v or the 226.

          Thanks guys! Lots to consider!

What are main differences between a 226 and a SV 211?

211 is a great option. I think you're on the right track there. If you want bigger, maybe a 22* series. But it'd be a great option for your little family. My wife like the 211. That may tell you something about the family-friendly aspect of the boat.

211 is a great boat. I was surprised when it was discontinued. It does everything well, but nothing great - that's the story of a "crossover" boat. My parents have one. I personally don't ski, but my brother can get into 28 off on the 211. My parents really enjoy the wake for free skiing. The wakeboard wake (even stock) is pretty good. I can do all of the same tricks (4 or 5 inverts, spins, etc.) behind the 211 that I do behind my 210 - I just can't go as big with them. The boat can be surfed with stock ballast also (for someone my size - 160 lbs), but in my opinion EVERY boat needs extra weight for surfing.

I don't like the walk-through, but many people prefer it.

              Great family/crossover/do-it-all boat.

The 226 is a nice family boat also. It is bigger and will ride better. The wakeboard wake is very good, but due to its size, you will be sacrificing some ski wake. I'm guessing you can find either the 226 or 211 in your price range in the years you mentioned.

I have a 211 and love it, but wish I had a 226 for the size. I don't ski very much, so that part of the boat is not important to me. I like the storage of the 226 verse my 211. Here is an image of my 211 and my friends 226.

I just purchased a 226, wanted a bigger boat for my family and something that would fair well in rougher waters. In my opinion, the 211 is a boat that works well for a 4-6 people on calmer waters. The 226 had ample storage and seats 9-10 w/ no problems. Additionally, the 226 rides like a dream!

I have a 211, it is a nice boat still meeting most of my needs just barely good enough for me to keep it after 7 years of ownership.

Those who watch my posts will tell you that I have made considerable upgrades to my factory SE boat. I can't imagine starting over with a new boat, it would surely take me years to get it to the level of my current satisfaction with my current boat. That said I would have a few more boats on my shopping list today. I would look at the Sport 200V, it is small inside but I might sacrifice the space for the better slalom wake. Next would be the Malibu VTX, if this was available in 2005 when I bought my 211 it would probably be the boat I would currently own since my best friend was selling Malibu's at the time. Back then neither the VLX nor the Sunscape met my needs as well as the 211 so I remained loyal to Nautique. I have also heard the Malibu 247 is a good crossover.

                          Spend some time shopping.

If skiing is important, the I would I would recommend Sport 216 DD (2003 or newer), 206 (as mentioned earlier)...but am now squarely biased to the 200V (also mentioned earlier.) Any of these three would do all of the activities that you mentioned superbly.
                            Peace..
