Question about re-set switch on my nautique

I have a 1994 ski nautique, Saturday I was out in my boat several hours and stopped to swim, leaving the boat in neutral and running. When we got back in the boat I put the boat in gear and everything died, no power, nothing. After being towed home, the next morning I lifted the motor box and pushed the reset swith on the back on the motor and then the boat cranked right up. Has anyone had this happen, and if so why did it happen??

If you are talking about the red 50 amp (i think) switch on the top of the motor assembly, my 2002 SAN has done that occasionally. Usually it happens if I get some water in the bilge, so it may splash up and cause some sort of short. not sure, but that is the first thing I usually check if I have a problem
