    New Nautique Owner!

Hey all, I just recently purchased a used Nautique SV 211 Limited. I have been wanting a Nautique ever since I can remember. I have owned boats almost all my life (IO) but never an inboard. The boat is used, 2006 with around 100 hrs. Pristine condition. Anything I need to watch out for or do differently compaird to an IO? How is the reliability for this model? Cant wait to take the family out this weekend!

Thanks in advance for all the help!

    Welcome to the club.

The list is long but one of the first things to do before you really need to do it ....is practice backing up and "fake" docking in the open waters.

You can't steer a single engine inboard in reverse. If your prop is LH, the boat will back left. If it is RH, the boat will back right.

All of those cool reversing tricks you could do in the marina, near the dock, and loading the trailer are out the window. It's a new ball game.

Check all your fluids and change your impeller if it wasn't replaced this year.

        AirTool,

Thanks for the information. Never even thought about going into reverse. Should be a fun learning curve. I am not sure about the impeller but will replace just in case. What about using Ethanol Gas in the Nautique? Ever since they added it I have heard horror stories. I needed to get a filter installed on my old boat to keep it from varnishing up my system. I use Starbright Star Tron on jet skis and used it on the old boat. Should I use an additive or will I be ok?

        Thanks again.

Welcome, congrats! I've never had any issues with the gas I put in my boat. I might be missing something, but I don't think you'll need an additional filter.

I recently talked to my shop about the Ethanol in the fuel and he recommended using STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer - Marine Formula for everyday use. You use 1 oz/10 gals. I honestly don't know if there is a huge benefit, but in reading through the PCM literature, it specifically states to NOT use fuel with Ethanol. So this is my piece of mind.

I already use the standard STA-BIL at the end of the season when my boat isn't going to run for 60-90 days.

Here's a link for the Marine Formula as well as some basic info:
            http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...1#.T-3Gno4zOIg

New, concentrated formula designed to fight the damaging effects of ethanol
More than four times the fuel system cleaner than in Regular STA-BIL
Double the corrosion preventer than in Regular STA-BIL
Prevents corrosion from moisture & ethanol-induced water attraction
Improves marine engine performance year-round, not just for seasonal storage
8 oz. treats up to 80 gallons
32 oz. treats up to 320 gallons

Congrats on your new Nautique! The 211 is an awesome boat. It was my first Nautique as well, and it has converted me to this brand forever.

Last year I was treated to a factory tour, along with a demo of my upcoming boat on Nautique's private lake at their facility in Orlando. All this arranged through my dealer (SG Sport Marine in Quebec). It's a great experience if you ever get the chance.

This is my 4th Nautique and probably won't be my last. Hope you'll enjoy yours for a long time!

I thought RH props back left and LH props back right. Isn't my 2000 SAN a RH prop? It definitely backs left (unless I crank the wheel all the way to the right before I start backing out... in which case sometimes I can get it to back right depending on the current). When I say back left, I mean lists to port. When I say back right, I mean lists to starboard. If I were facing the back of the boat, then it would be RH prop backs right, etc.

But anyway, Airtool is right. Practice backing up in the open water.

Great Boat! I agree with airtool on the backing up issue. I will never forget when we bought our first 2003 sante and took it out. We pulled up to the gas dock as usual and i dropped it into reverse to slow down and the rear of the boat swung out and almost smacked another boat. I was so embarrassed. Then on a busy weekend we got stuck in the gas dock area because a boat would not move. I had to circle for a few minutes an explain to the fellow boater that my boat doesnt steer in reverse and only goes one way.

                  Chexi,
Are you saying that if you crank the steering wheel you notice that your boat sometimes goes the other way? That would be nice! Mine only goes one way and thats to starboard side. Very difficult now as my older boats went to port side. Hard to back out of our slip now with the 2012, so we walk it out and kick off the dock.

That's correct. My 206 backs left (to port) and has an RH prop. For some reason I was thinking it was an LH prop. No way I'll ever forget it backs left.

Thanks for all the replys. I will just continue to us the ethanol additive to be on the safe side. No place in NY close by to get untreated gas. Talked to the dealer and they just changed all the fluids and the impeller so I should be good to go.
