Came Close to Disaster Last Night

Lake level is down in E Tx to the point where our boat house is not usable (our lake didn't recover from the drought) so we've been anchoring the boat out during the evenings. About 10p last night a pop-up thunder storm developed, and around 1015p I checked and the boat wasn't there.

The wave action had evidently broken the anchor free. I managed to spot the boat about 150 yards out and probably 200 yards down wind and she was heading across the lake. Luckily during my swim the the boat the anchor snagged a hydrilla patch and slowed it enough for me to catch up.

Put her on the trailer and called it a night, but man was the blood pumping by that point.

I had a 25' line in 4' of water and thought we would be fine. All of the rollers during the 4th didn't move it but the wind sure did.

A 6' piece of chain will help your anchor stay stuck if its a Danforth. Glad you were able to recover. Another trick is to use 2 anchors about 45 degrees apart.

I had to swim for one at a vacation rental house. Will the lake allow you to put in a temp mooring bouy. Go the the local hardware buy a mixing pan, rebar, and concrete mix. Form the rebar into a u shape and cut holes into the pan. Use the pan for a mold and mix a couple of bags into it. You can put a hole in the ground so the rebar won't be pushed flat against the pan. It should hold two 80lbs bags or less if you perfer. You can put U shapped rebar in the ends of the pans for handles in case you need to move it.
