    2000 SAN Wakesurf?

I messed up my ankle pretty bad a while ago and am looking to get into wakesurfing. Any of you guys surf behind a 2000 SAN? I've only tried a couple times now but am having a hard time getting a good clean wake when going this slow - too "washy". At this point we've been filling up the back port ballast tank and having everyone sit in the back corner. I was thinking about trying to fill the ski tank or bow ballast too with the hope it would create a cleaner wake. Thoughts?

I have an '05. We exclusively surf on the starboard side (all natural riding backhand) as the RH prop makes a much easier wave on the starboard side.

That said, we run stock belly & starboard. Add around 300 pounds to the starboard locker & depending on people another 3/400 on the floor behind the driver's seat.
With 4 in the boat including driver you can eliminate the floor bag.
The wave is very powerful & I (220lbs) can drift to a 10' gap between board tip & transom.

To get the port wake up, you'll need a lot of ballast to get a serious list to overcome the RH prop.
I know wome will tell you the port side is good, but it will take a LOT more finesse & ballast to match the starboard side.

On port side I run 750 in port rear locker, 580 in ski locker, 400 on port side seats, 400 in lead under the port bow seats, and about 200 in a fat sac on the port bow seats. Perfectly clean? No. Pretty clean with lost of push and a long pocket? Yes.

I messed up my ankle too last year. Just had surgery like a week and half ago. Use his as an excuse to start foiling. It's much easier on your ankles than surfing. My injured ankle always hurt after surfing for about 10 minutes. I can foil all day with no pain... And no ballast.

I have had success on both sides. I run a 750 in the locker, full center (I've also run half full hoping for the water to lean toward the surf side, but doesn't seem to matter), 750 up front on surf side, and 2 400s on surf side in various orientations. I have never surfed another boat so I have nothing to compare it to, but I believe our 02 produces a solid wave.

I too destroyed my ankle last year. Shattered into 24 pieces and broke my leg in three places. I've now taken up wake surfing. My boat is a 00 SAN, what I've found to put out the best wave and cleanest especially on the port side is to NOT use ski locker ballast. That's right, NOTHING in the belly. I've tried several different ways with my bags, which are 2 750, 2 540, 2 400, and lead. So far I've gotten my best port wake and starboard wake with this setup. 750 on the surf side in the v drive compartment. 540 or several people down the side on the surf side. 2-300 in lead in the bow on surf side at 9.8-10.3 mph depending on rider etc. I'm 235 surfing a byerly hazard and have plenty of push and a clean lip. Gonna start working on the length of the wave next by playing with more front weight. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I ride left forward so had no choice but to make the wake as nice as possible on port side. Starboard is easy and this same configuration on starboard is HUGE!

Port side has a great surf. 400 in bow, 650 in ski locker, hard tank with 400 sac on top both filled and 600 sac on port side seating. 3 people in boat and it was slammed over on port side. nice smooth & long wake thats fun to ride @ 9.8 - 10mph. im pretty new to wake surfing but was pretty impressed with the wake. boat is a 2000 SAN

You always have a choice - I don't get why people think it is so hard to ride a wakesurfer backside.....
I am going to try some of the ballast configurations listed here to see if I can get the power into my Port wave..I won't hold my breath.
We've had the wave look beautiful, but the power was weak as piss

I don't think it's hard. I just don't think it's as fun. If you don't it's hard to ride backside then why do you even care about your port wake? Pretty sure he has some power in his wave judging on how far back he is... and mine is almost the same as his except slightly shorter in length which I'll fix by putting some more weight in the bow. Sounds like somebody pissed in your cereal this morning.

I don't really, I've ridden pretty much exclusively backside for 6 years.
Dude, I'm not trying to ruffle feathers, just offering my opinion.

Maybe it's just my boat, but when we first bought it, we tried hard to get a port surf wake worth riding.

The only reason I'd try the port is for my own curiosity. If I'm giving crappy advice, I'd like to see the proof.

Look at his port wake in the picture. Not trying to ruffle any feathers either, but his wave looks pretty **** good IMO on his port side.

That wave may well be awesome. I've had mine look fantastic too, but it was big, clean & powerless (which was disappointing)

Picture never do a wake justice. I can get so much push out of my surf wake on my 2000 that I have to ride the brake (i.e., put all my weight on my back foot) the entire time. Shift a little weight to the front and lengthen the pocket and I get a very rideable wave. It is not always perfectly clean though.

One reason to surf port side on this boat is that the gas tank vent is on the starboard side. Unless you rig a snorkel on the vent or re-route it, you risk getting a lot of water in your gas when surfing starboard side.

                              Wake looks killer!

I surf goofy on starboard side. Our boat is a 2012 and think my prop turns differently but it's very clean and fast. I have to ride the brake hard.

Great looking wake and the water looks killer!
