    1970 CC Torino questions.

    Hey,
I'm new to the site. My name is Brady and I hail from Newton, IA. Just picked up a 1970 CC Torino and I'm trying to get it sea-worthy again. It's been sitting for the better part of the decade so I'm working through the usual wiring and fuel issues. I have a few questions.
-How do I change the oil? It's got a 302 and from what I understand I'm supposed to suck it up through the dipstick tube correct?
-I need to flush out and drain the fuel tank. Are there provisions for that or am I going to have to be inventive?
-What are guys using to supply water to the RWP? I don't care for the fake a lake idea. Can I just pull the suction hose, lay it in the bilge, flood the bilge and run it that way or is something like the fake a lake the only way to go?
-Where can I find a RWP impeller for it?
-How rare are these boats? I can't seem to find much information on them. I found a Ford 302/351 service manual from Pleasurecraft Marine. Is that what I've got?
-How about the rudder and prop shaft stuffing boxes. Is there anything that needs to be done to them before it hits the water after sitting for so long?
I'm new to boats so I'd appreciate some patience.

Thanks in advance, can't wait to get it out on the water.

    Brady.

Brady; Correctcraftfan, ( www.correctcraftfan.com CCF) does in fact have a lot of information regarding your boat. However, I will try to answer you here.
1 The easiest way to change the oil is to pump it out the dipstick. There are several units that you can use that are available from West Marine or SKIDIM.com (Discount Inboard Marine)or Nautiqueparts.com. Search oil change here and on CCF to see what they look like.
2 The easiest way to flush out the gas tank is to remove it or remove the sender unit to access the inside. You can use the same pump you are suing for the oil change to pump out the gas tank. I wouldn't drain it out of the pickup tube because there might be a lot of gunk that would plug the tube, especially if its been sitting for 10 yrs.
      3. For your boat the fake a lake is the best solution. You can get a flushpro from West Marine or Nautiqueparts but its expensive and I think a fake a lake is more versatile. You can also take the hose off the water inlet fitting and stick it in a 5 gallon bucket in the bilge with a hose in it. I wouldn't fill the bilge because you have no idea what might come floating out and plug the hose.
      4. Any marine store will be able to get you an impeller. NautiqueParts or SKiDIM will have them. Make sure you get an OEM Jabsco impeller. I would also get 2 to have one for a backup.
5 Your boat is not all that rare. If you go to CCF there are at least 20-30 of them listed. I don't know what engine you have but I wouldn't bet against the Ford.
      6. Both the Rudder shaft and prop shaft stuffing box will have to be repacked. If you search repacking stuffing box or rudder shaft there are several good threads with pictures both here and on CCF.
You will need 3/16th and 1/4 packing. I like the teflon impregnated fiber.
Good luck. My first CC was a 65 Barracuda. You will be amazed how helpful people in this community are. Have fun and let us know how things are going from time to time.
