Newer Nautique or Pool

I'm personally for the boat. I do all the maintenance/repairs myself. She only realizes the the fun of each. The nice thing about the boat is that taking care of the boat is almost directly related to using it. In the winter I don't really do any work (maybe run it on the lake every month). With a pool I would need to clean/add chemicals almost every week.

What will probably happen is that I'll keep my current boat and get a pool. Then I'll have to maintain two toys.

I find this thread fascinating. I know many people with ski boats and many people who have pools... but I cant think of a single person who has both. It seems like a pretty distinct lifestyle choice between the 2.

We have both, been in the pool once this year. Great when the kids were small but now I clean it more than I swim in it.

Something else to consider is whether or not you have children and whether one or more of those children is a teenage daughter. A pool is an invitation for teenage boys to come over. A boat is your ability to control the guest list and the visitation timing. On a boat, the teenagers have fun, but you are there to supervise and to assess if any male guests have a brain in their head. If you only have sons, who cares, either choice is good, they can bring girls on the boat or to the pool.

Here is what I did. Wife had been bothering me to lose 20 lbs for couple years. She had no confidence that I could do it. So I said if I lost the weight can i get the newer boat? She said yes. Starved myself for about 3 weeks. Hit goal. Bought boat. Done!

Look on wife's face when she saw the scale...Priceless!

I personally dont have kids, much less girls - but I would imagine it would be way better off to have people over at your house than have a daughter going over to their house because they have a pool...

Wow, a pool thread goes four pages ! Well, we have both. Use the pool during the week, then go to the lake house on the weekends. We just like to be around water. We built our pool about 13 years ago, so I don't really remember if there was much discussion about either or. I've had a boat for 27 consecutive years, so I wouldn't have been receptive to selling it. One thing for sure though, the OP needs to consider his own neighborhood before building a pool. If there are lots of pools, that's good, but you don't want to have the only pool in the area. One is financial, the other is all your neighbors will flock to your house if you have the only pool around and it really won't help resale values either.
When we built our pool, we heard all the negatives from previous pool owners, but we wanted it and built it anyway. Have never regretted it. Our kids were young and have spent countless hours passing time and having fun. Pools really aren't that much labor to maintain. The key is to not let it get away form you. Even if I don't get in the water, the sound of moving water is relaxing and helps to forget the stresses of life. Just like boating does.

We have both... We live on the lake with a pool & hot tub in the back I'm in the pool 4-5 times a week and ski 4-5 times a week. Now we are in florida so we use both mostly year around. Its just nice to swim lap and get cooled off to plus i can control the water temp ..

My wife has been pushing the pool until yesterday. She was driving back in the Hill Country and saw a new Blue G23 at a gas station. She now thinks that's we need to get. I had to reel her in a bit. I'm pushing towards a 2007-2009 210, but she really likes the way the G23 looks.

If you have the kitchen pass for the G, order one now. The pool in our back yard gets used less and less each year. It is now 8 years old, there are three teens in the house and someone uses it an average of once a week.
