No need to use a synthetic oil. Even if you do, do not extend the service interval.

True on the intervals DC, but running RP bumps the top end speed up a couple mph. Got that advice from Jody, and it works.

I use Pennzoil 15W40 Marine Grade in my '03 Excalibur......Cheapest if you can buy it from an oil distributor, not a marina.

Its just primarily "marketed" as a diesel oil because of the viscosity. (as most or all of the 15w40s) It is certified by API as an oil for gasoline engines also.

FCC filter? Genuine only to my knowledge RP080026, the small metal inline if fitted is RA080024A pretty sure there is a WIX replacement for this, Or if it is the screw on filter 2012- a Racor S3213

I use the rotella too...something about having a certain additive in there. I'm sure someone will chime in with the name.

I have the GT40 and it may be something required for that. I know some folks use Valvoline VR1 but I have trouble finding it locally.

i get confused but something about the rollers in certain engines requires more zinc or something like that. i've always used rotella t and an fl-1a filter.

Older tappet motors require high zinc contents in oil, like the gt-40 for example.

Go with the rotella. I personally use it and have been for years with out problems.

What we really need is a thread where people can report an instance where absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt, an engine related / lubrication problem was attributed the brand of an oil.

I would love to hear an explanation of exactly how you propose to determine such a thing with absolute certainty.
