Brother wrapped a trotline around his last year. Picked the weight up off the bottom which happened to be a brick and after about a dozen bangs against the hull at 3000 rpm and 3k worth of damage, he learn to give those markers a wide birth.
Ouch!
Caught the rope twice (shame on me) and added goggles and a knife after the first and thinking about a snorkel with hose extension.
I think this has happened to most. We had it happen when the wife was driving, and I was boarding and had talked my then 5yr old into riding on the wakeboard with me. A little wind, some distraction for the driver, and the rope slid under the boat. I was lucky and saw it happen and was able to get her stopped. I borrowed my sons swim goggles and made a few dives and was able to unwind the prop and got the rope out without cutting it.
We keep a box cutter/razor knife and googles in the boat. I like AT's idea of shrink wrapping it (but how do you cut it open? :-)) to protect both the knife and the kiddies (not to mention the seats!)

Had the same experience, it's such a pain that we are much more careful about wind direction and where the rope is.
In addition to the list of items provided by others, I also added a pair of water/working gloves (e.g. I keep boarding/kayak gloves). Found out first hand how sharp the propeller blades can be. With murky, cold water it's tough to be careful not to scrape your hands on them.
It's funny a few mentioned how sharp the prop is. I was running my hands all over it and I really thought I cut my hand but kept on getting the rope untangled . When I finally came up the first thing I did was make sure I had five fingers.
