Which boat for all around recreation.

Hey guys just started looking for a boat. This would be family boat pulling tubers, skiers and beginner wake boarders. I like to ski and want a smaller wake at 30 mph but looking for something that will also put out a decent wake for surfing too. What would you recommend in a used boat?

    Thanks

I just got a used SV 211 and love it. For me no better way to go.

New or used? New I would look at the 200's, and used the SV 211's.... imo

It sounds like a recepie for a 211.

how many will typically be going out? 5 or less then a 211. It's fine for ocassionally more but if you constantly invite others along you'll want more space. Otherwise, the 211 is probably what you're looking for.

We've been very happy with the versatility of our 210 SAN, plenty of room for friends and can cover all activities comfortably. Obviously geared more for boarders and surfers than skiers.

What is the difference between the 211 and the 216V? 216V is a couple inches longer and 400lbs heavier in the 2010 literature. They don't look dramatically different on paper.

216v is supposed to be the replacement for the 'nice' 211 while the 211 was reduced to the 'entry' level boat. It should be a fine option too, but the ski wake is just slightly worse (may not notice the difference) and the boat is 'optioned out'. So definitely an option for you if it's in your price range. Whatever you choose, test drive. Only you can choose what's acceptable. Lot's consider the 210 as a good all around boat (as mentioned above). It just doesn't have the walk-thru option (which I Love).

And once again, your price range determines what to look at. The new 200 Sport is definitely worth checking out if you can go that new.

I'm inferring from your statement that skiing is the top of your must have list? If so, a used 206 would be a great choice. If you're going new, 200V.

Questions: What's the budget you have to work with? As asked before, how many persons on-board is something to consider. If are you lakeside or trailering makes a difference as far as needed storage, etc. Then, priioritize: ski, surf, wake?

The challenge is finding the ski wake and surf wake in one boat -- they are saying the 200V fits that bill, though.

I have a 2012 200V with 55 hrs. It really is a versitale boat. Coming from a direct drive, it does have good skiing wakes, but there is a bump at 15 off. intermediate wake board wakes, but I have tried fat sacs in the rear compartments and up front and it makes the wake much bigger. Planning to plumb the rear bags in on top of the tanks. Normally surf on the driver side - its the way we learned behind a 210. Really a great boat. Add the Z5 cargo bimini in addition to the racks, and you can carry a ton of gear. Boat feels much bigger than 20 ft, due to the width.

I've been in a 200v and agree it feels bigger than one would think. Its not the 230 road hog but it feels bigger than a "20 footer."'

                          How's it handle rough water?

I am very pleased with the "new" 210 hull ('07 and newer) which handles chop far better than the 211, in my opinion. Also has more space to hide fat sacs (for surfing) and a better seating arrangement, IMO.

I don't know - we were in a dedicated lake with only a ripple. I'd say better than DD but NOT better than any 210 model or bigger.

We have an 09 216V and love it for everything we do. We are not good at anything, but enjoy skiing, boarding and surfing. So far it's done everything we ask of it and has a great layout with plenty of room.
