    thinking about a 93 sport

hi, i am thinking about purchasing a 93 sport nautique from a neighbor. i don't know the hours yet, but i took a quick look at the boat before starting a little research. it is a 93, added tower, new full cover and tandem ryan, it is a typical, teal/pink color scheme. it has a bit of spider cracking around one of the front cleats, but otherwise the glass seams good. interior has normal wear and tear, but in pretty good shape. he says he will drop it in the water and i can test it for a few days. he is asking $13 and i am not sure if that is a fair price to start. the nada guide is pretty vague about true value. i also wonder why, it looks like it has a small, step up, in the walk through to the bow? i should look closer as to what that is about, it is hard to see it in the pics of other boats..it will be be a family boat, i ski but only course at 30 mph at 15, other wise it has to pull duty as a rec skier, toy towing, wakeboarding and hopefully surfing..any thoughts, opinions, advice, or info is very much appreciated.,
    thanks, fly

Good boat. Can't really go wrong if you are limited to that price range. $13K is probably about right as far as where to start. If it is in good condition then $11-12K is a price you should be happy with. There seems to be a floor on decent used open bows although if you can find a late '90's Sport/Air I have seen them go off at $15-18K and they usually have more options- GT-40 EFI, tower, ballast, perfect pass, etc.. Good thing is the 93 is the first year of all composite construction in floor and stringers.

The bow 'step up' is the playpen style. That is how they came thru 98. They did it for hull rigidity. Not a big deal, you get used to it.

As long as you aren't asking for the moon, the boat will do everything you ask of it. Wakeboard wake will be great with ballast, surfing is possible although will take a decent amount of weight unless you are very light, and slalom wake isn't terrible(not great either).

      Hope this helps!

I loved mine. I had a 93 that was purple with a new dimention tower and racks. Had 500 or so hours and slight gel cracking at the rubrail screws, about 6 of them. I sold it for about 12k 3 years ago, and it was completely mint otherwise. was a great wakeboard boat and surfed really well. It did decent for skiing too. I also had the pro boss carb gt40 with the protec ignition conversion. If that one has the same motor, see if the conversion is done. If it looks like a standard distributor on there, than it was. Protec parts are not cheap or easy to come by. The conversion is the only way to do it.

The GT40 is a different motor to the Pro Boss with Protec. The GT40 arrived in 1995 using parts from the Ford based EECIV MPI engine. Previously PCM had used the Protec ignition and fuel injection systems. The Protec coil packs are no longer available but as Don mentioned can be easily replaced by a distributor with conversion kit for $500.
