    Rookie Question....

Purchased and restored my first Nautique. It is a 97 sport. Might be a dumb question but why are there two MPH guages? Just curious..

Fail safe, and they never read 100% true, so with two you can get a better "true" reading.

With pitot tubes, debris often gets caught, causing one speedo to drop out. If you want accurate speed readings, and don't need speed control, Precision Star from Perfect Pass is awesome. It's relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and gives you GPS based speed.

I ski in a river, and am not a fan of GPS based speed control.
Reality is Slalom, and Jump competition are the only two waterskiing disciplines that use speed over land, or time to cover a distance for a speed reference. Every other watersikiing discipline, you want speed over the water.

And then there are problems with GPS systems dropping out.
In my opinion, the Airguide system is much better that GPS based speed sensing. It is simple, and easy to maintain. It shows you how fast you are going, not how fast you were going, the last time it got a good fix.

I do use a GPS handheld unit to calibrate the Airguides if I am that worried about actual speed. But I use the Airguides to monitor the speed.
