Does anyone know the approximate weight for a '96 Ski Nautique and Ramlin single-axle trailer? My trailer registration says 8000 lbs, but I'm sure that's a max weight rating, not the actual weight. Looking for a new SUV and trying to determine if I need it to tow Class II or Class III.

Your boat weight dry is 2500lbs + 1000lbs for trailer (estimated). You have to add in any accessories, fluids, and equipment. I would guess it would be around 3800-4000lbs, so I'd go with Class III.Previous:

My 2000SN with a dual axle trailer weighs 4000lbs. The trailer weights 1100 so my boat and gear weigh 2900. For years I towed with a class II hitch with Dodge Caravans that were rated at 3500 lbs. I never had a problem and used to tow 1000 miles from San Diego to Lake Tahoe and back. I just let the vehicle pick its optimum speed going up hills. The trailer has brakes and I kept them in good working order. I thinl you are probably right on the cusp. Good luck.Nautiqueless in San Diego

On a big rig scale, I've weighed my 206 (1 foot longer, open bow, tower) on its single axle ramlin. It weighed 4000 "even" on the scale and the tongue (on a different axle scale) weighed 450. So Rick's slightly lower number is good.
The boat had NO gear but a full tank of gas.
I paid 20 bucks at a truck stop to weigh it. http://catscale.com/

My weight was also done on a truck scale on the way to the lake fully loaded. I was looking for a tow vechile and I wanted ot be sure. I also did the tongue weight and it was 300 lbs. My scale was at a Mayflower moving company that had a public scale sign. It was $6 if I didn't need a written document $12 if I did.Nautiqueless in San Diego
