Which Nautique has the Best Slalom Wake?

Hello all. I'm brand new to the forums. Getting ready to purchase a boat for the 2013 ski season. It will be used primarily in the slalom course running between 30 and 36 mph. I've always heard SN's have industry's best slalom wake. I was wondering which SN YEAR and MODEL has the best slalom ski wake. No bias opinions please. Thanks all!

1997-2013 are all awesome, with the 2010 to current 200 being the best. There's no difference in wake between the 200 open bow or closed bow. That was a priority when the 200 was designed.

I'm currently eyeballing a 2002 196. Anything in particular I should be aware of for that year and model? Also, I've overheard some people at ski club mention that the late 90's had the best hull for slalom wakes?

Any information helps. I have very little knowledge about SN's.. only MC's

I have a 2000 SN with the TSC 1 hull. It was the lake boat where the Malibu open was held for several years. I have seen several pro skiers behind it at 39 1/2 off. They just removed the back seat and balanced the driver with either an observer or lead weight. There is a slight bump at 28 off but it skis really well. The later versions allow for better trick wakes or crossover wakes but I don't think you can go wrong with any TSC hull.

My 08 San 210 with only 2 peeps and 100lbs of lead in the nose isn't awful from what they tell me.

After owning 8 MC's, we switched to CC in 2006 and never looked back. A 2002 196 is a great boat. TSC2 hull, and at that time you could get the Ford GT-40 or GM Excal motor - both great. It was also the first year of final overall look and layout of the 196 model. I'd bet the boat you're looking at already has the digital gauges swapped out, but if not, the Teleflex stuff they used that year was crappy. That's the only issue with that year I can think of. If you've owned or are used to any MC after 1994, you're in for a treat getting behind the wheel of a CC:-)

As far as wake, anything from '97 on is really starting to split hairs. If you're running -35 and beyond in the wind, you would notice the 200 has less spray. How's that for hair splitting!

Scott, don't think the 02' was using the teleflex gauges as that was the next gen dash and hull, should be the faria i believe.
02' used Ford blocks until they ran out, so you will see Ford and GM Excal that year.

Chris, you're right though, it didn't have the new dash pod until '03.

Made me look too, checked some diaries and it looks like the bad teleflex were still being used in 02'.

That means hour meter/gauge likely to not be original, if GT-40 no way to verify hours, if Excal they may be retrievable through the computer.

If its a gt-40 with new gauges don't rely on perfect pass to check the hours. That's easily adjustable.

AT What line lengths are we talking here? or just an overall best year's slalom boat?

I have now had three 200's. Three SN's 07-08-09, two bubble backs 97-98, one Slant back 92 and two 2001 models 84-87!

At the long line 15 off and slower speeds 26-32 mph my wife really likes our current CB 200. 22 off is a bit hard but then it gets real nice at 28 off and on into 43 off, CP just had his best two scores this season behind it!
The 92 (we still have the boat) has a great 22 off and 28 and 32 off however the trough off the wake at 35 and 38 is rough.
The bubble back 97-01 and TSC ?? 02-09 were good if not great slalom boats but they just don't stack up across the board to the 200 CB.

I will tell you, I had a 2002 SN 196 for 10 yrs and then a 2012 SN 200 for the past year and would say the following:

I loved our 02, never had a problem w/guages and ordered one of the very first 02's w/chev motor (lighter). Never had a problem and wake was awesome at virtually all lengths and speeds.

2012 SN is simply awesome and virtually better in all ways. I think the 02 might have had a better wake at slower speeds, but the 12 is a superior boat and I think a better wake at 32mph and above.

cant' go wrong with either one.

Does anyone have an opinion on the 206 open bow wake? Thanks again for the help.
