Don't forget to check your oil drain hose

I read somewhere that the oil drain hose has a tendency to rub on the serpentine belt. While I was tracking down an oil leak, I was inspecting the oil drain hose. Sure enough it was rubbing on the belt. My boat only has 130 hrs on it and it has almost cut through the hose.

I am going to relocate it, but though I would post a reminder for others to check their hose as well.

It would be handy if someone would post a picture of the hose routing as it came from the factory. I bought my 206 used so I don't know for sure. I do take great care to get it behind all the brackets.

I noticed mine was laying in the bildge earlier this year and when I fished it out it had fallen into the belt and had a nice chunk missing about an inch from the end. It cut it halfway through and I freaked out because I had put about 10hrs or so on it since the last oil change. Fortunately there was no water in the oil, my guess is that it made enough of a loop above the pan to break any siphon that would have drained oil out or pulled water in. For the time being I secured it to a motor mount after I removed the damaged part. Next oil change I'm going to replace it with enough hose to be able to secure it to the back of the motor so it stays away from the belts comptelely. My guess is that it shook loose from its usual place Memorial Day weekend on the way to the a beach that we don't normally go to in conditions that we usually try to avoid.

Yes yes yes check them! I've posted this before, a cut remote oil drain line is what caused this SAN 230 to go up in flames a month or so ago in Madison.

I just found my hose needing replaced on my 220. Yep hose was touching pulley. The way mine clipped on it could move around a bit. Make sure the is no room for that hose to swing into the belts. I couldn't reach the fitting so does anyone known if the engine needs lifted? Zr6 in 220.

I'm so thankful for this reminder. When I winterized my boat this year I pulled the drain line out of it's original location to pull the ballast hoses up so I could fill them with anit-freeze and I never did put it back. One of those I'll do that later deals that this thread just reminded about. Luckily I'm headed to the lake today so I can move it. Shoulda tied a string to my finger huh ?

              Thanks
