    1987 nautique ski mv2 throttle problems not staying at set speed (throttle moves)

    Hi guys need help we've got a 87 ski nautique with a mv2 throttle
    our problem is the the throttle handle doesn't stay where you put it , it moves on its own now I think it's its the interlock ring needs replacing my partners disagree .?!anyone had this problem and does anyone know who can supply the interlock ring as I know they have gone out of business ? Please help its terrible to board behind as the speeds constantly changing

    You are not supposed to be able to take your hand off the throttle and have it remain at a constant speed. It is supposed to return to idle.

    I recommend not taking your hand off.

      Ah right Well our mate has a 89 and his stays in position, I take it his is broke then ?? We need better drivers then that can keep the speed constant maybe������

        Keeping a constant speed will require continual (small) throttle inputs... so taking your hand off wouldnt help anyways.

        Sounds like someone may have removed your buddy's throttle return spring, which is a safety no-no.

          Hmm thanks irben for the info , sounds like they have, we know have the problem of fixing our speedo hopefully the sensors just need a blast out with an airline ! Thanks again for your belp

            Actually, there is a drag setting on marine throttles. The throttle on my boat is set to stay where I leave it. I did add an extra spring, on the throttle body, that keeps the slack pulled tight on the throttle cable.
            My 1997 Ski Nautique has a breakaway lanyard, that kills the engine in case the driver is removed from the boat. But what driver ever hooks the lanyard up to his clothing?
            your 1989 boat may not have one.

              Where is it on a Morse MV1/MV2? Ive had many of them apart and never noticed anything that fit that description.

              Youre correct, no lanyard on a '89. They werent added until '93 or '94, IIRC.

                I believe the throttle handle on my 1997 is made by Teleflex.
                I had to take the throttle handle off, and then the coming pad around the throttle, and the drag adjustment was under there.

                  Id be interested in seeing a picture... I cant envision what youre describing. It does not sound like the older Morse controls had anything like that built in. The controls themselves always operate smoothly and easily once rebuilt- its usually the cables themselves that provide the resistance. I cant think of anything that would offer a drag adjustment, unless you were to add it after the fact... in which case, you want to keep safety in mind- and make sure that the throttle will still return to neutral in the event the cable breaks.

                    I had the same thing happen on my Centurion. After I took the throttle assembly apart, I noticed that there was a wave washer (some people call it a spring washer) that keeps rotational resistance on the throttle handle. Mine was worn enough that the carberator return spring over powered it and brought the throttle back to idle (or close to it). I ended up buying shims from Fleet Farm and added them behind to wave washer. This gave new life to the wave washer and kept the throttle in a cruise control manner while I was driving. You have to experiment a little with the shims until you get a resistance that you like. I hope this helps.
