i just got my ecoboost so I have not towed with it yet, but after reading many threads on the f150forum you may want to try a few things.

    1. Tow in 5th gear, or push the tow mode button on your shifter. That should keep the engine from turning too slow and bogging. In your picture you're at 72 mph but the engine is turning under 2000 rpm's, not ideal.
    2. Use cruise control on flat ground, but turn it off when towing on hills. This helps a lot when not towing, again not sure if it will help when towing.
    3. Take the cover off your boat when towing....even a tight cover catches some wind and acts like a parachute. Plus your gelcoat won't get all scratched if the cover is off.
    4. Inflate your trailer tires to the max psi rating. (cold psi)

Does you truck have a tonneau cover? They help reduce wind resistance.

Overall, the higher suspension and the big tires are hurting your mpg so don't expect miracles. Going 70+ hurts too.

Ha... My whole goal on the ride home was to keep it in 6th and lowest Rpm's as I could!?? Also I test drove a 250 6.7 today... Very happy with that rig!

All engines have a natural lug curve that follows the torque curve line above peak torque...but is actually higher than the torque curve line below peak torque. In the area where these curves diverge, your engine works harder (burns more fuel to achieve the same torque).

The EB has a peak torque of 2400. Agree with njskier, limit your top gear to 5th and pull in tow-haul...try to maximize your speed while staying within 80-90% of 2400 rpm (~2000-2200).
          Peace..

Perry! That 230 is sick!! I talked with your pops a while back... Feel free to call with any question as I know that boat had a lot of custom stuff to it, I do know it backwards and forwards...! I'm happy you have such a sick boat to shred, better the sport!

I have a 2011 250 6.7 i don't even know my 230 is back there ! I avg 15 mpg towing I also have a lift 20" rims and 37" tires. My buddy has same truck stock he says he gets 19 with his 23 lsv. I have had a Tahoe, navigator, avalanche z71, and a Yukon Denali 6.0 nothing even comes close to the diesel. I will never own another gas truck! Can't wait to get my g and test it out! Upgrade to the 6.7 it will be the best decision you ever make!!

The only better up grade would be to a 6.7 Diesel that starts with a blue C

Yeah right! I call BS there. I had a 2011 and at best it got 19 with the stock tires and stock everything. As soon as I changed from the street tires that came with it to a heavier more aggressive tire the MPGs dropped to about 15 empty. Towing I would get 9 -10.

I now have a real Diesel and it starts with a C.

Perfect haha. Have you gone rogue and taken off the DPF and EGR junk yet? I know it voids warranty buttttt it's worth the investment in fuel savings per year plus it makes it smell and sound like a real diesel is supposed to. With all the proper deletes and a smarty box on my friends 09 driving empty under 75mph it would see 23-24 mpg wowza. It had 3.73 gears in it instead of the 4.10 option. We had 12 and 24 valves but those are a catagory all to their own.

It now runs and breaths like my old 5.9 did. The fuel economy has not quite increased like I had hoped. Then again it has 35" mud tires on it so I can't be too critical. I am planning on getting a set of alterain tires for it in the spring time. Maybe the MPGs will start to get better. I have to keep my foot out of though and that is hard.

I do like the Ecoboost and the F150. Then again the new Dodge Ram 1500 with the 8 speed auto and air suspension is pretty awesome too.

My best friends dad used to run common rail trucks via his company. His last 5.9 didn't start getting over 20 mpg untill it had around 80k on it. Just getting broken in. He used to average 22 Highway with 4.10's. It's a shame all the new diesel trucks have to have DPF, Converters, and Egr.... Not ment to have those things thats why they cause problems!

That doesn't make any sense I've never seen mine read anything under 12 and thats towing 85+ . It always stays in 15mpg range under 70mph who knows maybe the computer is wrong. To the original post you can go wrong with a diesel its a whole new world compared to gas you won't be disappointed with one ... Unless you get a dodge haha

My gas Dodge gets 14 pulling my 86 . I just couldn't justify the extra cost of a diesel anymore seeing that the biggest load I pull is my car to Ohio once a year. My 3/4 ton gasser averaged 8 city 12 highway but it was a beautiful truck . New truck 14.5 city 21 highway that is if it isn't windy. The mpg was the main driving factor in the new purchase.
