sport 200 or super air 210?

I'm trying to decide between the two. I currently have an 05 Malbu 23 LSV with the diamond hull and am looking for a wakeboard/surfing boat that will ski as good or better than my 23 LSV. I ski recreationaly and the kids wakeboard but we all want to surf. Any feedback would be appreciated. Does anybody have a picture of either of the boats' wakes at 34-36 MPH? I'm happy enough with the wake I currently get and I can see the 200 wake is great but how's the 210's wake for skiing? Dealer is pushing me to a 210. Thanks

Maybe the 210 has a better wake now than an '04 210... but I wouldn't even allow my worst enemy to ski behind that boat! The wake is just not what you want to ski behind. The 200 has a nice wake on both sides for surfing (so I have been told and the pictures look good) and obviously the ski wake is very nice. I would think your options are really between a 200 Sport and a VTX with Surfgate. -Marc

Surf smith posted these pictures of the 200V wake. There are several threads on the forum about the 200V. I agree with high altitude...I have a friend with a 210, it is not skiable to me. However, dont know how a 210 wake would compare to a 23 LSV.

Sport 200 wakes at 34 - 36 are good at 22 and 28 off, bump at 15 off.

I have seen video of an awesome ski wake at speed (34-36). And awesome surf wake (considering the size of the boat). If I had not been telling myself I wanted a DD for the last 10 years (and the price was not in my budget) I almost certainly would have bought a 200v. It looks to me like the best "cross over" boat made.

You won't want to ski a 210 at 34-36 (any speed IMHO). The 200V will absolutely smoke an LSV for skiing - not an apples comparison at all. From the description of your needs, the 200V sounds like the boat - unless you need the space? The 210 dwarfs it in size. Coming from a 23LSV, you may feel REALLY cramped in a 200. The 200 is a crossover, with a greater focus on skiing - just look at its bloodline. It does just fine for rec boarding and surfing though, from everything I've heard on this forum. Does the dealer have a 200 in stock, or just the 210 (hence pushing it on you)?

You are probably right but the dealer insists that the slalom wake on the 210 would be better than the 23 lsv that I own. I'm looking at the VTX too but worried about the surfgate technology. The 200 just might be too small for me and I'm concerned that it wouldn't surf very well. Thanks

I was a passenger on Shaun Murrays 230 watching him tow a skier through the course. 34mph @ 22' off.

Was hilarious. Wouldnt do it behind a 210 either.

We have guys run 32' off behind the 200v at 36mph with no problem.

But coming from a 23' lsv like u said, you're going to be cramped in there and lot less storage than your bu

              Whats wrong with surfgate?

Look here for the Sport 200 surf wave: http://www.planetnautique.com/vb3/sh...rt-210-230-G23

I think the wave is very nice. Now is it going to be a G23 wave? Of course not..but you get the crossover capability. From everything I have heard the 23 LSV has a great surf wake when you sac it out. It's probably horrible for skiing. I don't think you can have everything but the 200 Sport might come the closest to the having something for everybody.

IMHO, I believe the surfgate is going to be somewhat game-changing for the crossover boats. The ability to surf either side without moving the ballast is pretty nice. Are you worried about the "unproven" technology. -Marc

Yes, I'm worried about the unproven technology. My Malibu dealer was going to demo this for me in September but the Surfgate failed a 1/2 hour after they pu the boat on the water so I never got to see it. I have a 23LSV already and the wake is good enough for rec skiing so I'm now leaning toward sac'ing it out and putting a tower on it and just keeping it for a couple of years. If the sport 200 was 1.5' longer I'd probably upgrade boats. Thanks

Well, I guess any boat can have a mx issue. Surfgate uses Lenco 102 actuators and they are a proven technology (as they are used in almost any boat with trim tabs). Heck, I'm not sure what the 200 uses for it's hydrogate, but for all I know it uses the same actuators. I personally don't think the technology will be a problem at all.

Keeping the boat you have is always a smart financial move!

200 uses a manual system to raise and lower the hydrogate. simple lever that is pushed up for down, right beside the throttle

200 sport is a great ski boat, ski at 36 MPH w/o any complaints

we sac it out and it throws an awesome wakeboard/surf wake.
Can easily get good air at 75 ft, and the surf wake is really good stock and amazing sacced out

                        did you consider a VTX?

After reading that you are happy with the LSV wake.... it makes things much clearer. There really is no need to get a new boat. The big question is IF you want a better ski wake than an LSV (and I don't think a 210 would be much worse than an LSV) what is the best option? I personally think it is down to two boats: 200 Sport and Malibu VTX on a diamond hull. When I am finally ready to upgrade (probably 4 years from now) those will be the two boats I will be looking at (since I plan to buy a '12 or '13 used). -Marc
