QUOTE]haha, for some reason I didn't think Oregon got that much snow. Looks like Alaska. Hows that deck hold up to all that weight? [/QUOTE]

So far so good. I do always expect part of it to have fallen during the winter but so far only the top of the chimney has ever broken off. I am surprised because the foundation of the cabin is a hodge podge of cinder blocks, rocks, railroad ties, and sections of telephone poles. On the inside all the posts, beams, and rafters are trees cut on site and all exposed with the bark still on.

All you guys up north with these beautiful lake houses, I don't know how you do it with such short riding seasons. What do you guys do to kill the time while not in season? Maintenance around the house?
Just have to get the whole family, especially the kids to do other things as mentioned, for us it is snow skiing. Kids were both way better than me by age 8-9.

actually, i cheated. that pic was taken in october. i heat the pool for thanksgiving, christmas, and my girls birthday's(jan). it's pretty expensive in the winter. if you are thinking of a pool, i would consider an automatic cover, UV water purifier, and make sure your hot tub is in-ground. we did an above ground hot tub when we built our home and put it in a concrete vault with a drain. bad idea! ruined our hot tub within two years. built-in hot tubs are much easier to maintain and the water quality stays better because it uses the filter in your pool. also, i am a fan of fiberglass pools. they are a bit more expensive to install but, they are inert and don't bleed acid in the water. also easier on the feet!

i love the pictures everybody!!! cool houses!

I agree with most possible lake views. Our cabin sits on a point, so we we have a great view from every room. I added this porch cover this summer.

ID:	365224Best thing for us is the lack of lake access, except for waterfront homeowners. This pic is from an early Saturday afternoon. No one around. It's safe, calm and there are not too many bonehead boaters out there. Rarely need to raise a flag, because there is no one to see it. Only one gas dock so we do get raped at the pump. This year gas was around $6.80/gal.

The actual house is so seconday. Give me warm, uncrowded waters and my 210TE and my whole family is loving it. Bought lots of expensive log furniture and the kids and I just sleep on the deck in sleeping bags anyway, so that was a waste of money.

It is a short season in N. Idaho and the 128 stairs to the dock suck (especially for Grandma and Grandpa), but no other trip in my life has come close to producing the summer fun we enjoy at the lake.

Best purchase besides the Nautique, a full size refrigerator in the dock house.

my thoughts exactly. Grandma's place was a 40+ yr old single wide trailer. All that mattered was good water, good pier, and easy to get to the water (the fact you know it's exactly 128 steps says something.) Views are great but it's a trade on boat traffic. Our place was just inside a short cove so we could ski in and out but not much going by to make un-welcomed waves.

How about some “must haves” for the boat house. Below is my list of necessities for the perfect boat house. Any additions or subtractions? Anyone have pictures of great boat houses or storage set-ups that they can share? A dock and a boatlift is all that is really needed. It is good to think big though.

                  The list:
-Must have ability to ski right from the dock.
                  -Fridge
                  -Ice machine
                  -Land line phone
                  -Sink and counter
                  -Outdoor Shower
-Ability to pump gas at dock
                  -Ceiling fan(s)
                  -Wireless internet
-Built in speakers and a MP3/IPad docking station
                  -Air compressor for inflatables
                  -Basic tool box storage
-Shoe storage rack (no shoes or sandals in the boats!)
                  -Trash Can
-Shop vac (built in or portable)
-Boat slips for 3 boats--Ski Nautique, Super Air Nautique 210 or Sport Nautique 200, and Party Barge
                  -Boat lift(s)
-Ability to change oil and perform minor maintenance (slide floor underneath boat when raised or slide lift forward)
-Fresh water hose for rinsing down boat after use
-Ability to heat engine block in winter (eliminate need to winterize)
-Ability to dock boat with boom attached
-Storage for the following (leave wet and items can dry while you are gone):
                  --Ski Ropes
                  --Skis
                  --Wakeboards

If these are "necessities" what are "nice to haves" How about a couple of good hammock spots? And a deck on top of the boathouse so you can maximize your view?

Nothing to big, nothing to fancy, just 80ft of frontage, 25ft water depth, 40ft dock, and a project to work on in between sets!! Not a bad way to spend summers.

Belmont Lake, in Havelock. About 35min east of Peterborough...When Im not at the cottage with the boat, I also ride out of the Niagara on the Lake sailing club.

I don't have a lake house, but this is the one I drool over. Lake Burton & Lake Rabun in North Georgia have some of the most incredible boat houses anywhere in the country.
