    Skidim, PCM, Thank you. (LONG)

My 90 SN has always had an annoying noise at idle that has driven me nuts. Kinda a buzzing, squeaking noise. Like an old washer doing the spin cycle. I have never been able to figure it out. This year, I was sick of it so I figured the only squeaky, rattly thing in the drivetrain would have to be the damper plate. I mean, after 1000 hours and 15 years, that's probably what it is. I ordered it from SkiDim and did the install myself, which involves taking the trans out and bellhousing. Imagine my surprise when the noise was still there. Actually, it was purified. The distortion from the damper noise was gone and now I had the full washtub spin cycle noise. Constantly at idle. At this point, I was ready to just sink the boat. In desparation, I called SkiDim and got Vince. He has helped me in the past many times. He went through the usual alignment, bushing, packing, etc song and dance and then remembered that way back when PCM did a recall/fix for the early Power Plus 1:23 trannys. Apparently, there was too much pressure in the control valve, resulting in an annoying noise/buzz. He gave me the name and extension of the guy at PCM to talk to. I called him up, and left a message. The PCM guy called me back in minutes. He confirmed that there was a kit for the problem, and that SkiDim may actually have one. Keep in mind, he is helping me with a transmission they made back when Poison was a hot band. When a Porche 944 was a cool car. When every body wanted a Countach LP 5000. When I was in 6th grade. So I ordered the kit from SkiDim. It's basically a 12 inch length of high-pressure quarter inch hose with pressure fittings on both ends and one end capped off. The other end screws into an allen head plug on top of the trans housing near the shift lever arm. Basically, it gives the valve some room to bleed some pressure off. The noise went away. The vibration went away. I am so amazed that trans fluid is what made that noise, which was very mechanical and abnoxious sounding. Thank you Ski DIM and PCM for helping an old rig make it another year on the original drivetrain. Way above and beyond the call of duty.

    Poison is a great band!!!!!

However, the sound of silence in the drivetrain is much better!

Now you've made me feel very old

Good story. This is why PCM and Correct Craft consistently
do very well in owner satisfaction surveys.
