Factory Tour

It's been said before but it's worth another plug. I took a Nautique Factory tour today with Larry Shea. We didn't even call ahead as it was spur of the moment and he made time for a great in depth tour. It was awesome to see how these great products are built from mold to fit and finish. The whole process especially the QC is top notch. If you're ever in the Orlando area it's a must see. It's a awesome facility and as entertaining (and a lot cheaper) than any amusement park.

As a bonus I stopped for a quick cable set at the OWC and happened to meet Shawn Murray and see JD Webb, Mike Dowdy, Jeff McKee and Brian Grubb among others ride. Dowdy was working on his doubles behind the G23 (wake to wake dub tantrum) and on the kicker (dub mobe).

All in all, a **** of a January Monday for this New Englander.

Heading to O town in March and this is high on the priority list. Roughly how long should I plan for a tour? Is the age limit 10 or 12? daughter will be 5 weeks shy of 11...

They tour took about 1.5 hours and it's on the outskirts of town past the airport. So if your at the parks it will take about 40 minutes to drive. 20 minutes from the convention center. I'm not sure about age restrictions, I'd call.

We did the tour last spring when my son was 10, I was pleasantly surprised at how much he enjoyed the tour! He was asking good questions and FREAKED out in the assembly area where there were tons of boats in the finishing stages...:-)
If you allocated an hour and half to the tour, that would cover it well.

10 (and maybe younger) is be okay. They need to have the attention span and the ability to stay inside the yellow safety walkway w/o parent assistant. If you have to hold their hand or be a helicopter, leave them out.

I think everyone also needs closed toe shoes.

IIRC, my taxi ride from Disney to the factory was about 70 bucks each way. If you take a taxi, the driver will give you his cell phone number and you can call him for pick up or tell him to come back at a certain time. There are some sofas in the waiting area where you can relax while you wait on the taxi.

Indeed! It may have been shrink-wrapped at that time though. They pulled the wrap off early this week to get it water-ready for me.

I've been on the tour twice once to see the whole thing and another time to see my G23 in production. All amazing people over at the Nautique HQ.
