Hello, I am looking to buy my first NEW wakeboard boat. I have a house on the Colorado river in Needles,Ca. A lot of people that boat with me including my wife and one daughter, are avid skiers. I was needing info if the G23 was at all friendly to skiers? Most high school kids all wakeboard with us but those early morning runs are always for the skiers!! Thanks a bunch!

Nope. We've skied behind Malibus before. Not the funnest , but got the job done. Just wondered if anyone ever tried it. I have a ski boat for when skiing is gonna take most of the day depending on our company, but I don't like having two boats out at one time. Just really trying to talk myself into it!

Next question, what's the top speed on this boat with average load and the 409? I'm hearing its a heavy sucker and that's why the 409 is the smallest engine they sell in it. Which is fine as for any other brand I wouldn't buy under 400hp again!

I agree. You're going to want more than the 409 in the G23. Mine has the 550 and I love it. The 450 is good too.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. if you didn't care if it was new, i loved my Nautique SV 211. it was a great crossover for kids learning to wakeboard, skiers, etc., it's out of production now though, i believe.
I have been in a boat with the 409 hp G23. That sucker took a long time to plane! Not sure what the top speed was but, the time to plane was annoying to me enough, that i said no to the 409.
here's a random: i have a friend who likes to waterski behind my 230. He was jumping the wake and it was all fun and games, until he broke the ski. what happened next was ugly.
good luck!2013 G23 550 NSS

Whitelake told me the ski wake was like a 210 with the ballast full. Sounds like a resounding NO.

My malibu 247 produces at least an acceptable ski wake. Certainly not a ski boat wake but you can get over it on a single ski without too much trouble assuming no ballast and decent speed (wake smooths out a higher speeds). Sounds like the G is more like my old Chaparral 260. Big wake no matter what you do......

Define how you ski.
The G23 wake with driver and one passenger, no ballast, wake plate down, and at 30 mph is not huge. But it is firm as **** and it would definitely alter your slalom cut! If you are normally skiing behind a PS190 or SN direct drive, you will think it is unskiable. But if you are use to an I/O wake, it will not seem that different.

I was wondering the same thing... what kind of skiing do you do? If you're a rec skier, who enjoys basic standing on the ski and slow wake crossings, it may work for you? If you're a slalom skier in any way, it would be awful. A baller would consider it impossible. I'm picturing in my head a G swallowing up the boat path buoys... that would be a crazy sight'08 196LE (previous)
