Going to pick up my 2012 sante tmrw advice

Hey guys! I'm headed to pick up my new baby tomorrow and while I have been boating since I was 2 this will be my first ownership. I was wondering if there is any advice or things I need to check out before I hand him the check.

Also, I'd love to read some stories (horror or "the best day of your life") from some members taking delivery of a boat. Feel free to share, you're in the trust tree.

Congrats! Is it new or used? If new I can't help you too much as I have not had that privilege yet but I would make sure that everything in the sales agreement (filler cushions, stereo equipment, board racks, etc) are present and if it is not work out a solution and get it in writing before you take delivery. Also make sure there are no cosmetic defects in the gel or pulled stitches in the upholstery but I highly doubt you will find any being that it is a Nautique.

If used make sure the hour meter reads what was stated. Take a real good look around the gel, rub rail and interior to look for any damage that were not stated by the seller. Make sure you get all of the proper documentation to transfer the engine and boat warranties and make you do this transfer in a timely fashion if you want to do it.

Whether new or used take a good look at the trailer especially if you are traveling a long distance. Make sure lug nuts are tight, tire pressure is correct, and that bearings are in good shape and properly greased up. Also make sure you have the correct hitch and light hook ups on your tow vehicle and that the trailer lights are working correctly when hooked up to your tow vehicle. Also might want to bring some extra trailer tie downs if you are not sure if there are any on there already. If the roads are salty you should figure out a way to clean any salt off the boat and especially the trailer ASAP but that could be difficult in the cold weather.

Last piece of advice, don't forget you still have to look at the road in front of you which is pretty hard to do when you keep looking in the rear view mirror and smiling about your new toy. I had to keep reminding myself that over the 1,000 trip from SC back to MA. Oh and post plenty of pictures!

Could use a little more info to answer intelligently, buying new? dealer? test driven yet? How far away? trailer able cover? Spare tire on trailer? etc.

Are you towing it back to Chicago area somewhere?? If so it would need to be fully winterized. I would not be to excited about towing this time of year, would be a bummer to get home with a totally filthy, salt covered brand new boat.

If new, add checking for gel over-spray on the interior as well - would look like little dots of fly crap. Obviously something that shouldn't ever happen, but I've heard stories albeit from a diff manufacturer, but I would rather overcheck than undercheck.

Hey Quinner! Thanks for the reply, here is a little more info:

          -New Boat from a dealer
          -Have not test driven
          -It's roughly 4 hours away
-It does have a factory cover
          -Spare is on the trailer

I am going to southern IL and thankfully it is fully winterized. And I am bummed about the timing, I really would prefer not to get it all salted up, thankfully I live next to a detail shop!!! Hopefully the storm will pass soon and the roads will not be bad.

Is it possible to trailer with the tower down and cover on? I saw a post about this but no one was able to answer the question yet. Thanks again!!

What dealer, extreme?? New + Dealer + Warranty, you are all good. Without seeing the cover, hard saying if it will be trailer able. Ideally you want to tow without the cover whenever possible, January/Feb in Illinois, not likely to be possible, lol. I have towed with tower up and tower down. Either scenario you really want to remove whatever you can first, like speakers, bimini, etc. (if Z5 at least remove the fabric). Be sure spinners are turned inboard or rearward if possible. If tower is folded while towing you may want to tie it down or put padding between it and anything it may be resting against, not 100% sure on that tower, perhaps Jeff will chime in as he previously owned the same boat (assuming it's a 210).

Regarding the cover, if it has and requires tie downs a cotton clothes line will work in a pinch.

If you have a floor jack and a four way, bring them just in case. At a minimum you want to be sure you have a lug wrench or socket that fits the trailer wheels or verify your vehicle equipped lug wrench matches.

Oops, forgot to say Good Luck and Congrats, what lake/river will you be on??

^ +1 Maybe wait for a "weather window", or even Spring time?

I really wish I could, unfortunately they need to move it out to make room for their 13's . . . and more importantly, I can't wait any longer!!!! Pictures to come soon.

i just did the same thing. my dealer covered both with shrink wrap. super tight. had plastic wrap underneath anyplace it could rub, then taped all sides and corners, twice.
when i got home i pressure washed entire boat and trailer in driveway with soap and water. they washed boat and trailer and pressure washed again. pulled it in my garage and when it was dry took the shrink wrap off.
everything was spotless and in perfect condition from the travel. hope yours is the same.

Congrats on the new boat! Bigbucks has it covered (literally!) That would be the best situation for towing in that salty road environment...
