230 Through the Years

I have been looking at used 230's for a long time. Occasionally I dip into the older ones back to the 2007 236. I understand some of the changes like the electronics; LINC and the obvious stuff like graphics, carpet, and tower.

But were there any other major changes through these years that make it a completely different boat, like hull design...or is mostly just updating the same boat beginning with 2007 236?

Here is the one I looked at. Good condition. 409 motor wasn't avail. I guess so 375.

But I still don't really understand if this is a totally different boat than a 230?

I was wondering the same thing myself and even almost posted a thread just like this! But I really cant see a single difference between the 230 and the 236 honestly. I know the hull design is the same and floor layout is the same. I can't seem to find the extra 6 inches anywhere though. Maybe they are in the transom I don't know. And what really doesnt add up to me is why they made the 230 AND the 236 in 2008. If I had to take a blind guess at what happened I would be willing to bet that it came out as the 236, designed to be a crossover boat, but people LOVED the wakeboard wake, so Nautique probably said we should add this to our SAN line to get wakeboarders attention. So in 2008 they made both because they didnt want to give up the 236 and gave people a year to learn that the 230 is the same boat and so eventually they dropped it because the 230 took its place as the premier wakeboard boat in the world (even though they are the same boat)

I think you are probably right on this. When they made both they probably just gave the 230 a bit edgier finishes somehow for wakeboarders (graphics etc.). I don't think the 6 implies 6". I think it is their identifier for crossover, just like the 226 and 216.

If they really are the same, the 236 value might suffer a little because wakeboarders (who don't take the time to realize it is the same) pass over the 236. Dunno. Most people probably prefer the 230 because it is well known, and the 236 they aren't quite sure what it is.

Also, just FYI, upgrading the ECU to the later ECU for the same year on that 375 will make it a 390 AND allow you to add Zero Off! I know because I did it on my '07 236 when Nautique was testing ZO. I ran PP and ZO side-by-side in that boat all year!

I own a 236 and it is in fact the same hull as the 230. It was introduced as a crossover in 07 and CC realized its true wake potential and decided to market the boat as a hardcore wakeboat (230) starting in 08. If you are in the market for a 23 footer don't hesitate to look at the 236. The only difference between a 236te and a 230 te is a few stripes in the interior and the prop. The Crossover 236 has a less torque prop where as the 230 comes with acme 1235 standard to push a ton of weight.

When we were looking for a 230/6, we found Alot more 230's available. The hulls are the same, options are the same, biggest diff is the stock prop interior pattern (230 more intricate and detailed), standard graphics are different. If you can find a good '07 236, you will have an excellent wake and save some $$$.

My opinion is CC introduced the 236 to get a year of owner experience under their belt without the pressure of a new "Super Air" model would have in the market place. They did something similar when CC installed the new PCM V drive/transmission setup only in the '06 210, a known hull/boat before installing in the newer hulls. Again MY Opinion and observations about how thorough CC is in their product development.

jury seems still out on this. everyone agrees you wont be running a course with it, but many believe recreational skiing is possible with the hydrogate

depends on friends, fuel, and gear i suppose

I remain hopeful on it becuase my MC 209/X9 is a crossover too, but it's slalom wake is really not that good for a direct drive - V hull goes all the way back on it - actually is a better wakeboard hull/wake....so I figure I would be used to a boat that slaloms but not that well hhahahaha!
