leftover boats from out of territory dealers?

    Hi all,
I've got a friend looking to purchase an '11 or '12 210/230 and he's come up with a couple of leftovers from out of state/territory dealers.
What is the CC policy on this? Are those dealers bound by their CC dealer agreement to sell the boat "in territory?" Do dealers sometimes compensate the "in-territory" dealer to off load older new stock?

    thanks

My experience may not be representative of other parts of the country, but I have walked into 4 different CC dealers over the course of many years and none of said I couldn't buy a boat from them :-). Granted I live in MA where the nearest two dealers were NH & Conn.

I bet they just restrict the dealer from advertising outside of their region, but if you are willing to drive further and spend your money, I can't believe they won't take it

Actually, he had one who said, "would love to sell it you, can't." It must have something to do with the warranty work. Dealer who sells it, has an obligation to do the labor portion on the warranty work, and get reimbursed by CC for labor.
We went to our local show hoping the CC rep would be there, but he wasn't here this year.

My recent acquisition of a 2012 210 sante was a hold over from a dealer no where near where I live. I've talked to a few "closer" dealers (thats a relative term since the closest is ~3 hrs away). And they have all said they will do the warranty work if I will get it there. Local is deff. The way to go, but if you don't have local they will work with you in my limited experience.

There are a couple of low hour, Pre-owned, 2012 210SAN & 230SAN's at Marine Max in GA and TN. The preowned boats can sell anywhere, plus the 2012's can have the NSS Installed. New (never titled) boats are not supposed to be sold out of dealer territories, and if they are, then selling dealers are subject to penalties if they are discovered. IMO, your buddy should only look at 12 and newer, especially with NSS (and oter surf systems) now a factor in resale.

That is surprising, especially given if the warranty work is covered by CC, why would it matter which dealer does the work? If the only dealer who can do warranty work is the one who sold me the boat, what happens when I move from MA to CA?

I'm pretty sure this isn't true at all. Any dealer can do warranty work on your boat. Your warranty is with CC not your dealer. Also if it's engine work any dealer that is a PCM shop can perform that warranty work.

Now with that said your "local" dealer prob won't go to far outa their way to give you any special treatment. Meaning his customers comes first and you second.
Can dealers swap boats or transfer? This will prob cost you some extra money but will keep you in the good graces of your local.

If the buyer lives or has a second home in a Correct Craft designated "Grey" area, then any dealer can sell a NEW boat (not previously owned) to that individual. I have never seen the map but the dealers are quite aware of their territories and the grey areas. If a dealer sells a boat in another dealer's area, Correct Craft invoices dealer an additional $1500-$2000. This is certainly in addition to discouraging sales out of the dealer's area to protect the integrity of their dealer network. Any "previously owned" boat can be sold to anyone regardless of area.

My understanding is that only boats of the current model year are restricted to the dealers territory. Leftovers/ect. can be sold to anyone anywhere.
If I am wrong please correct me.

As I have been talking to dealers out of my network, if it is a 2012 not previously owned or not a demo, it should not be sold out of their network unless customer lives in a grey area. Don't know how a 2011 that has not sold would be handled; there may be a timeframe that a leftover is OK to move out of network.

usually if it is a non current year model, you can get it from out of territory dealers. I know that is the policy for Malibu and Premier Pontoons and assume it is case for most dealers. As long as it's something your in territory dealer cannot offer, there's not an issue and the in territory dealer will always provide warranty service.

You can do what you want as a deal but it is discouraged. Some dealers don't follow the rules but that is a risk they take in breaking relationships with other dealers and good standing with Nautique. N3 as a dealership holds that rule to a pretty high standard. When we find out we are dealing with a out of territory customer we immediately get in touch with the respective dealer no matter our relationship with them and exchange information. We usually find the customer has been in touch with their territory dealer.

That being said, anything used is free game. Left over boats still go by the new rule. Deals are negotiated between dealers if a customer wont buy anywhere but another dealer or the particular boat they want is at another and the dealer won't sell the boat.
