We brought our GSD with us to SJRR last year and she did great on the boat, no issues with tears in the vinyl, but as mentioned, hair cleanup is a real PITA. This year she's going to the kennel.

Anakin gets p...ed if he is left at home. His long claws have never been a problem with the interior.

IMO, it depends on a multitude of factors. For instance, i'm single(nobody to stay home and walk him), my boat is not brand new; hence i'm not anal about my interior, and my dog is short haired and 50lbs. Since when i go out it's usually for a total of more than 6 hours when i leave the house until i return i tend to take mojo with me. I hook his leash to the windshield "strut" so he can sit, lay down, but not jump in after me when i ride as many dog's tend to do if it's their owner in the water. He's a vizsla, and his nails are more like talons. He's been going out for years and has not harmed my vinyl at all. Also, i typically post up at a buddy's dock and mojo gets to play with his two dogs while we're hanging out on dock. Heck, mojo's first time swimming was when i was idling my boat on gum lake(name drop without being a total pro ho) when he was about 2-3 months old. He fell in and just sort of bobbed up and down, not using his rear legs. That is a memory engrained into my brain. A memory of laughter, fear, and love. It just depends on your own personal situation.

We always take our dog with us. She's a 3.5 lb Maltese/Chihuahua mix so she can't hurt anything in the boat. I'm pretty anal about keeping my boat clean (just ask the folks up at Buxton!) so she wouldn't come out with us if it was an issue. As a matter of fact, we got her certified as a service dog just so that we could bring her with us without worrying about not being able to take her into one of the restaurants on the lake that doesn't allow dogs on their patio!

I've somewhat ignored these dog threads but occasionally read them. It just struck me that we picked up a stray beagle about 6 weeks ago.......Uh oh. I wonder if she boats?

I would still love (mentioned it before) to see a dog and boat calendar. Wonder if we can get 12 good pics this season?

Dog, yes. Whenever possible. Sometimes she tries to take over the driving.

Just requires a bit more cleaning of hair afterwards.

My brother feels the same with his dogs.

If its not a competition ski boat, its always second best.
