    Mooring Cover Snaps

    Hey all,

I just got myself a 1994 Ski nautique CB. The cover that came with it is not the original but has snaps on the cover, but the boat doesnt have the male portion to the snap. Any ideas where to get these or should i order a new cover and try to get them with the new one? THanks for any help. Also if the snaps are available, does anyone have some pics of where to place them?

You can probably get them at any good hardware store, but I'd try a boating supply store like www.boatersworld.com to get stainless steel.

Overton's has snap kits. Try model 71667 at $89.99 (pricy), model 71666 at $24.99 or model 71665 at $14,99. If your reference to the male portion of the snap means the part that is screwed into the gunwale or fiberglass (the stud), then you won't need the clamp-on tool. You can probably go for the cheapest kit which includes the studs (all stainless). If you go for the pricier models make sure they have enough stainless parts as some of them are brass.

By the way, model 71665 only has 20 pieces of each, you may need more. I can get you more info on places that sell snaps or you can search the net. I've seen boxes of 100 studs (with screws) at around $15.00.

My snaps are "hidden" under the rubrail.

mrese, do you have any pics of the snaps under the rub rail. Im kinda debating wether or not to do this yet. I dont tend to like screwing into fiberglass.

here is a picture if it posts. I tow with the mooring cover between Ohio and Alabama and it works well.

Oh okay, those look good. If i am seeing this right they are upside down in the rub rail right, not the fiberglass? Thanks

That is where I personally put mine. My mooring cover only has four snaps on each side to supplement the draw string. the dealer did not put the snaps in as most people don't want them on their boat. As I tow a lot, I wanted the extra support for the cover to keep it in proper position.

yeah, for me its wind, the draw string wasnt doing that much and its already blown into the water once this year. i might put a couple on just like you say to reinforce the draw string. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Yes the snaps are in the rubrail and not the fiberglass. I don't use any ropes or anything, only the snaps. Probably a good idea to do so but my cover isn't set up for it. I do a lot of trailering and have not had any issues with the cover.
