I believe from the 450hp but I'm trying to confirm with dealer now. Any one know for sure from their dealer??

Curious what reason a sales person would give a potential customer for "upgrading" to the XS aside from bling factor?

Why is one type of cooling system preferred over another and in what application?

Definitely worth it IMO !! I was just glad I was informed with enough time to change. I feel bad for the people who paid for the XS. I cant remember ever jumping into some ones wakeboard boat and saying, " show me the engine in this thing". LOL I mean I see the bling factor for the power boats but that's it !! I'm assuming this engine still requires premium fuel ?

My G25 is almost done and it's got the XS. I clearly would have gone with the XR had it been an option at the time. I like the look of the headers and cover etc. but not really worth $6K +/- though I guess there is some value in the closed loop cooling.

can you guys explain the difference in closed loop cooling vs. whatever the XR engine will have? I'm not an engine guy so I honestly have no idea.

The cooling system was supposed to change but just taking a glance at the XR it looks the same. Same coolers up on top same coolant tanks one for the intercooler and one of for the closed system.

We were unclear exactly what was changed with the system.

How could it be a 1/2 cooling system? The engine block heads and circulating pump all have to be full of the same coolant. The headers were raw water cooled just like these manifolds are. The intercooler stays cooled by a seperate closed cooling system.

this is the decription from Nautique to dealers when this was announced:

                      • Lower price point at an upcharge of $10,938 MSRP, which is a $6208 savings from the XS550
                      • Replaced the SS headers with cast iron exhaust system much like the 6.0 liter engine
                      • Paint scheme on the supercharger cover; raw water pump pulley and fuel control cell goes from Red to Black
                      • Cooling system goes from a full FWC system to thermosticly control ½ FWC system

So cooling on XR 550 is same as ZR450 (with of course additional coolant circuit for supercharger) where the engine block and heater have std antifreeze cooled by a raw water heat exchange, and the exhaust, oil, and tranny are cooled with raw water?

No catalyst on the 550 version, so no closed manifold cooling required, right? Feel for you guys who popped for the extra $$$ for the XS version, but I promise, I'll check out the engine first thing when I hop on your bada$$ boats!

Wow, this is bad for the guys who opted for the xs. More $$$ up front. And when selling, it's going to be hard to justify being a higher priced used boat compared to an equivelant G with same HP. The xr is still an expensive 100 HP over the 450. Oh well, gotta pay to play.

Does the XR require Premium Fuel?

Would assume there is no difference in fuel requirements. Changes are primarily cosmetic. Compression ratio etc. and other key metrics of the S/C motor that require the premium gas are all same I'm guessing.
