Mastercraft owners seem to be very jealous of CC owners...

As someone who has owned both a Mastercraft and a Nautique in the past 5 years I will say that I think both companies make great boats and are obviously the top two boat builders in the ski/wakeboard boat industry. I really enjoyed my 2003 Mastercraft X-2 205V, but I definitely liked the wake of my 1999 Super Air 210 much better. It was hard to compare the quality of the boats because of the age difference, but I did feel the Nautique was a better made boat with a better fit and finish. Still nevertheless they were both great boats and I wouldn't hesitate to buy either of them again.

With all that said when I set out to buy another wakeboard boat after my 99 Super Air was wrecked in a car accident I was open to finding another 210 hull or Mastercraft 205V hull (Old X-Star, Old X-2, or current X-1) so I looked on the usual sites like onlyinboards and Craigslist, but I also did a lot of searching and reading on this site and Mastercraft's equivalent of Planet Nautique which is called Team Talk.

After a couple months of spending a good amount of time reading both forums with an unbiased approach it was clear to me that Mastercraft owners have this unusual obsession with constantly talking about how much better their boats are than a Correct Craft. They never brought up Malibu, Tige, etc., but constantly had to talk about how a Mastercraft was better than a Nautique. I don't know about y'all, but I just think that type of attitude has jealousy written all over it.

In the end does it really even matter and does this thread really even need to be started? Probably not, but I just thought I'd share my unbiased observations. I still would have gladly bought a 205V hull had I found a good deal on one before I found my 2004 Super Air 210, but I just want to say that I think it's pretty cool that this site isn't full of a bunch of Mastercraft bashing members and everyone just enjoys talking about their own boat and helping each other out. If you even mention that there may be a better alternative to a Mastercraft for a specific type of boat on the Mastercraft Team Talk website it is immediately shut down and locked.

Two thumbs up to the site moderators and to Correct Craft. I'm not even sure if Correct Craft has any ownership of this site, but I am glad to be back in a Correct Craft!

Now does anyone want to trade their G23 with NSS for my Super Air?! Those boats are incredible and would be at the top of my list if I was in the market for a new boat.

Just FYI, Correct Craft has no ownership in this site. It is run by owners, for owners. That's the way we want it, and it is also the way Correct Craft wants it, interestingly enough!
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

I spend time on both forums. My brother in law has a prostar and I ask questions over there because he seems to busy to do so. I love MasterCraft told myself for years I would buy MC over all others including CC. Then Of course I bought Ski Nautique, but not because I thought CC was better, but I considered it equal to MC and then the 206 overall was just the better boat for my list of wants. If my 206 gives me the same enjoyment and trouble free service my bro in laws prostar has give. Him the last 6+ years ill be happy as pie.

However getting more versed in the boating world all that I have come to understand I would edge CC in most categories, I think the G series has taken the big boats to a new level.

As for MC owners, if you post something over there about CC you will get a few that say MC and CC are 1-2 in the game but many do say alot of stupid "brand loyal" stuff and certainly more bashing then You do/would over here. They seem to be concerned about being perceived as the best not so much over here.

Here in Utah it's at least 10 to 1 MC to CC. But it's not 10 to 1 because the all have pro level riders making a conscious choice it is 10 to 1 buying a name brand they recognize. Malibu is probably 5 to 1 for the same reason.

I will be the one on my lake that "settled" for a CC :-)

I have a lot of respect for both boat manufactures and not too many years ago I was a Master Craft fan. I was converted with my 2010 SANTE 230 and agree that this forum is about CC owners helping other CC owners improve their boats. To all who participate I send a hardy "Hoorah"

Last summer I had settled on a 2007 X-Star and then was bummed when the deal fell through. I ended picking up an 08 SAN 220 and have now upgraded to a 2012 SAN 230. Haven't looked back and I'm pretty happy with my decision. At the lake I frequent it's mostly malibus and master crafts so I'm happy owning something different.

It is what it is MC has always bashed other brands to promote theirs. It has to be troubling for them to first loose the top spot in ski boats with the 200 and then loose the top wake boat with the G23 not to mention the NSS.

you wouldnt believe all the things the salesperson for MC said to me at the boat show. I'm sitting here like, 'bro, know your audience (CC owner) Before you start bashing their brand.'

One thing I have always prided myself on, and have noticed the same for many other Correct Craft owners, is that we don't stoop to the level of brand wars or bashing. If we prefer a specific product over another we have reasons for that and we state the strengths of said product instead of the weaknesses of another. I have always enjoyed it when someone new comes here looking for opinions on a new boat and often everyone here has constructive advise and generally has high regards for the competitions products as well.

I used to read the Team Talk website, but I quickly grew tired of the fact that MasterCraft ran that site. There was too much trash talking and too much locking of threads the second anything got dicey for MC's image.
Personally, I think a lot of that attitude has come from the fan boyish image associated with the MasterCrafts. At least around here, MasterCraft is the brand all the people recognize, so they assume they make the best product.

A big thank you to Jeff for making such a great site and keeping it open as well. It is really nice to have a place to come a chat openly.

It is definitely "mine is better than yours" on TT. We still have a classic MC in our family and love it. Have also owned 9 MC's now, but have been more satisfied once getting into our first 196 back in '07. I'm actually very excited to see the 2014 Prostar, as it's rumored to be quite an amazing hull. The TT guys did not share that enthusiasm before the 200 release. Over here, I feel credit and praise are given when its due. This is a fantastic site that I'm proud to be member of.

You may remember the old MC videos bashing everyone. The one bashing Malibu had a guy with a wedge tied to his back, and the Tige one made fun of them for copying MC. The one bashing Nautique was about how Nautique sat on its laurels and stopped innovating (with the Nautique rep having a stupid French accent). <-- Particularly ironic in light of the 200 and the G Series. Bashing others is in the MC corporate culture. There are of course some CC owners who are proud of their boats and say it, but I think there is a noticeable difference at least in the corporate cultures of the two companies. Perhaps the fact that Correct Craft was started by Christians who took that to heart (as opposed to a completely secular company) actually means something, and the corporate culture of CC has spilled over to its owners. No one can say for sure.

Personally, I would never turn down a ride in an MC (or a Malibu, Tige, or just about any other wake or ski boat out there), but it would take a lot to get me to change my own boat from my Nautique. For example, I have many of the fasteners out of my boat right now (e.g., kickplate is presently unfastened, seat bottom bolts are not connected, and the like), and my 2000 is still super solid. Just fired her up for the season and the only issue I had was that 2 of my impeller pumps were frozen and blowing fuses. These of course were after markets added by yours truly, and they just needed me to pull the impellers and clean out the pumps a bit.

One last thing, here in Lake Austin, it's about 10:1 nautiques over mastercraft or any other brand. I know that Nautiques are behind MC, Skiers Choice and Malibu, but you would never know it around here.

                      I'm for quality over quantity.

Back to the headline "Mastercraft owners seem to be very jealous of CC owners..."

This is very true and I can understand why. Heck, I own a CC and I'm even jealous of other CC owners. No tellin' how I'd feel if I owned a Mastercraft.

I'd tell a fun "Nautique ??" story from before I bought mine...but its too hard to type and I have to raise my eyebrows a lot which is hard to do in text.

I'm a major user of TeamTalk since I own a MC and have for 12 years. I was brought into this skiing world on CC boats because that's what my brother owns. I was looking for a CC when I found the MC because I felt the quality was a bit better. I do love the TeamTalk site but I can't deny anything that is being said here as I see the brand loyalty to the extreme in some cases, and since it is run by MC, they have no choice to reduce product and dealer bashing. It's only logical.
I can only say that most of the big TT users are great guys, always there to help, and the quality of information is great. If you can look past the few with blinders on, or just realize it and look past it, the site is awesome. Besides you know the saying, "opinions are like --------, everyone has one".
                        Peace!

I'm a longtime user and former moderator of MC TeamTalk. A lot of the guys over there do indeed love their brand, often times to the point of crowing about it. I'm less about the "brand" and more about what suits my enjoyment of the hobby. I feel pretty fortunate to have owned both a MC and a CC from what might be described as mythical eras for both companies (93 Pro Star and 98 SN). The MC was a great boat, which I would likely still own had I wanted an open bow, and the CC is an outstanding boat that I will continue to own for years to come. They are very different boats to be sure, but each had its good points. As I said in that thread on the teamtalk forum, those who crave and regurgitate marketing slogans will never have to search hard for them.

Not sure about being jealous but I do know some of them sure don't seem to like non MC owners posting on team talk!
Really though I think everyone likes to defend or talk up their own brand that they currently own. What gets me though is guys that own say a first generation x-star or something will defend to the end a new x-whatever for being the best thing on earth over any other brand just because it's a MC. And often times they will have never even been on either boat.

IMHO, 'most' people coming from an I/O or no boat at all, to a V-Drive, have no concept of what a Direct Drive is all about. I've been brought up on CC (79 Tique, 99 SN), own an MC (94PS205), barefooted beside a BU and skied behind an Old Ski Supreme. I know the quality differences but they were all Direct Drives and awesome pulling/towing machines!!
