    Nautique 230 Ballast

I'm looking to add ballast to my stock nautique system (2008 with 800#). I'm looking at a high fly 750 but am not sure it will fit. So now I'm considering removing the hard tanks and adding a 1100 sac. I know I will lose my gauges but think it wound be worth it. We do 70/30 wake surfing to wake boarding. I have not used my boat this year, I just purchased it. Has anyone done this?
    Thanks

The 750 bags fit on top of the 210 standard tanks, so I am sure they'll fit in a 230. I would leave the stock tanks and plumb the 750 bags in on top with an arrow sack in the locker if your 230 has the ski locker. Can't remember what year they stopped putting those in the 230. Otherwise the under-the-seats bag works great for the bow. That's what I used in last year's PN boat.

There is not much room on top of the factory rear tanks, and kinda funky shaped. Right at 24w x 14h. The lockers drop off as the get to the rear of the boat. I have measured the area above the hard tanks and the 750 sacs won't have enough room to completely fill up.

Best thing to do with the 230, in my opinion, is to remove the factory hard tanks and replace with the 1100s from Fly High. You should be able to swap both of them out in about a total of 30-60 minutes.

The 750's fit in my 2010 230 fine, but if I had to do it again I would follow ironj32's suggestion. It would be a lost less hassle and you wouldn't have to worry about collapsing the hard tank when draining.

the 750's will fit on top of the stock ballast tanks and you can fill them completely. no problem. I had them in mine.

you can also remove the stock hard tanks and put 1100's in there. removing the tanks is pretty quick - connecting the current lines to the bags is what took the most time when I piggybacked my 750's in there. the hose of the fly high sacks isn't the same size as the current hose in the boat so you need an adapter.

Those of you with newer 230's (2011+), how are you plumbing up the front of the boat to offset the 750's in the rear (wakeboard set-up)? My 2012 230 does not have the center ski locker (CC closed in the belly tank), so arrow sac is a no go for me. I was thinking maybe sneaking a triangle bow sac up in front of the belly tank under the deck, then plumbing that up to an integrated sac under the front seats. Anyone know if this will work or if there is a better solution for hidden water bow ballast in a newer 230? Thanks.

Yup, wakemakers under bow seat ballast bag. 650lbs I think? Connects to the front hard tank and vents out the side. I then throw 200 lbs of lead under the bow filler cushion

I'm not sure about the newer 230's, but my 2008 requires at least 900 lbs in the nose to get a long wave.

I put 300lb of lead in the front of my 2010. I wasn't quite enough if I completely filled the 750's in the lockers (above the stock tanks) but I still had some storage space.

The 230 has been an awesome ride for us when we do about 60:40 rear to front ratio. We do 1100's in the rear, a 375 on the bow floor, and then an 1100 pound bow triangle on top. It works well for us, because no one ever sits up front. If there is only 2 or 3 of us we'll put an additional 2-450s on the midship cabin floor. We also have an extra 300 or so on the port side to keep the wake clean on both sides.

                        Hey All,

What are you guys with the 230's running for props? I removed my hard tanks and replaced with 1100s in back and added the integrated 650. It seems I still need some more weight in the bow to get it to plane out better. I was thinking of adding some lead.

I have the 1235 prop on now. it seems to be a pain to plane right now.

All this weight on your 230's, what engine is everyone running? You need the 409? Who's got the 350- any regrets/issues/concerns?

I have a 2014 with no regrets. I have factory ballast with 450s in rear and 750 in bow. My buddy has same boat with 409 and there is no difference. Most people do not need anymore weight. I have had 900s in rear with no problems. I do plan to put 750 in rear as I do a lot of riding where there are only one or 2 adults in the boat while surfing. The only reason you would need the bigger motor would be 1. High altitude or 2. Slam the boat with obnoxious amount of ballast and load the boat with 12 adults. You can do one of the 2 but not both. I did a lot of testing when buying my boat but can't remember exact numbers in regards to rpms, mph, etc. I tested with 700 in rears 750 in bow and then filled 1100 sac on floor to represent additional people in the boat. We were never over 3200 rpms to surf. Easily got to 12 mph for surfing (not saying this is the speed to surf at but wanted to prove it could do it. Then test wakeboard mode and all I remember in regards to question about motor were there were none. We were up on plane and over 30 mph without a problem.
