    Nautique verses Moomba?

My friend wants to buy a wakeboard boat. He is about to settle on a 2006 Moomba Möbius LSV. It's about 10k less than the Nautique equivalent. Are there any big reasons to stay away from Moomba? I think having ballast tanks is a big criteria that he is looking for.

By the way, I have a 97 Sport Nautique and am very happy with it.

Your comparing a ford escort to a ferrari. For some people it's just about being on the water and can settle. Me, on the other hand would rather save and wait an extra yr and buy the best.

Pretty sure moomba had ballast bags and not tanks.

I ride on a 2010 LSV a lot and it's a fun boat throws a nice wake. Basically does the job just fine. Is it the same quality and feel of a Nautique? Nope.

If I owned a Moomba, I would trade it for a horse......... and then shoot the horse. In all seriousness, though, A Moomba is not even close to being built as well as a Nautique. Not even close. You are comparing the cheapest built inboard on the water, to one of the best built.

I would not make the comparison of a Nautique to a Ferrari. Nautiques are far more reliable.

folks on here will learn quickly that I am not a Nautique fanboy... same as I was on Malibu forum. i will call a spade a spade regardless of where it falls, seems like lots of folks have a hard time doing that and folks on here will get pissy due to honest feedback. But those 2 boats arent even in the same category.... Nautiques are known for looking and performing brand new even at 8-10-12-15yrs old.

As a reference, look at the throwback thread Zack at N3 just started on here a few days ago. Moomba is a pricepoint/budget wakeboat. Not saying there is anything wrong with that... and Nautique is at the high end. Night and day difference there in build, engineering and materials used. and thats even if the Moomba is years newer.

I would tell you if it IS only $10k more for the Nautique over the equiv Moomba.... thats a STEAL. jump on it.

Or an extremely over-priced Moomba. Moomba's are nice for what they are; entry level inboards. As stated numerous times above, they're not in the same class as a Nautique.

I don't look at a boat as an investment but a Nautique will hold it's value much better than a Moomba so he would get some of the price difference back on resale. If Moomba used PCM engines I would be more interested but I am just not a fan of Indamar. Moomba gives you a lot of boat for the price and I personally like their wakes much better than MC or Bu but the build and finish quality is not at the same level as the big 3.

I tend to keep things for a long time, I bought a Nautique because of their reputation on build quality. I drive a Land Cruiser for the same reason.

If your buddy wants a disposable boat (short term ownership), moomba may save him some money. But, I would venture that over the long haul with repair costs, the Nautique would be a better deal.

forgetting about build quality, which is important IMO, moombas just have terrible wakes. and isn't the wake why you buy a boat? i'd rather have a jon boat and just wake skate and have to worry about other boats wakes capsizing me than waste money on a moomba.

Several great comments here that I agree with. One thing to point out! This is his first boat or wake boat??? If so buy the cheap boat and enjoy it! If it becomes a lifestyle as it is for most nautique owners he will feel the difference in the products and eventually own a nautique. Nautique is just better built and has many many many more yeas of build boats for our lifestyle.

The Moomba Forum is lame compared to PN.

I hope they stiffened the hull - my 97 open bow Moomba Outback had a lot of hull flex. The flip over windshield would drop into the walk thru area when the boat hit a big wake.
