Title issues. Does anyone know what kind of trailer this is?

The owner of a boat that I am about to purchase says that he does not have the title to the trailer. See the attached pic. Do you know what kind of trailer this is? I am going to contact the manufacturer to see if they can issue a lost title from this far back (1993 rig). I am concerned that if I can not get a title to the trailer that I will not be able to sell it to an "out of stater" when the times comes. The rig is in Wisconsin. If the entire rig (boat & trailer) weight more than 3,000lbs, it needs to be registered, which requires a title. Does the weight of this rig exceed 3,000 lbs?

    Thoughts and recommendations? Thanks, guys!

In Illinois you should be able to title it pretty easily as "homemade", had to do that on my very first SN as the owner did not have the title. Be sure and write up a bill of sale also, WI does not require trailer plates, so it will not have any tags, in case U get pulled over on the return trip.

Guessing you figured out a test drive location, after the rains today/last night our piers are now just about floating, water is highest I have ever seen.

Thanks for the info. That helps. Yep, we're test driving it on Lake Delavan tomorrow. I called and the ramp is open (supposedly). Fingers crossed. I'll let you guys know how it all goes. I REALLY hope that it works out. This boat is exactly what I have been looking for.

In texas a trailer that size is non-titled.

Oklahoma also does not require trailer plates. We got stopped with my buddies parents boat from Oklahoma, the hillbilly cop in the small town in Texas said (and this is pretty much a quote), there's not a state in the union that you don't put license plates on a trailer. Town we were stopped in even made him pay the ticket....

if he doesnt have a title.... and you dont think you need one because it"d be under that 3k rule, or the state doesnt require it,.... you should still have a certificate of origin from the manufacturer. find out who makes that trailer, write down the SN and contact them. $30 and a phone call and you can get a duplicate COO.

Even if your state doesnt require plates, tags or registrations, you should at a minimum have the COO for your trailers.

To answer your question, it is not a Ramlin, so I would guess a BoatMate, but it should have a placard near the tounge somewhere.

I purchased my trailer (and boat) in Alabama, the trailer had never been titled or registered (not required). When I applied for a tag in Ga, I had to have an officer inspect the trailer and verify the VIN, then run the VIN through the 'system' to insure it wasn't stolen, then Ga issued me a tag, title, and registration. I'm sure every state has a process to handle this, but I do think having the copy of the COO is a good idea.

Like Azeus said there should be a sticker or placard by the tongue or inside the frame rails. If that is missing then some pictures of the crash pads/winch set up might help to identify it. Maybe it's a Prestige?

I picked my boat up in SC and the trailer was never titled or registered but I was able to get it registered in MA with a signed bill of sale from the previous owner without hassle.
