    Looking to buy

Greetings. I am looking to buy a natique. I am an avid skier with two young kids. looking at a sport 200 or older super sport or sv211. I hope to be able to ski, surf, tube, barefoot and wakeboard but don't want to get a pure wakeboard boat. I am intersted in opinions on the sport 200, sv211 or other thoughts. news vs used etc. call me lost in how many options I have. budget is a concern but new is not out of the question. thx

You will be way happier with the slalom wake of the 200v.

Depending on what speed and line length you ski at you will probably not be very happy with a Super Sport which is the same hull as a Super Air. I believe the SV211 was the first slalom tournament rated v-drive and it surfs and boards well so I think that would definitely work for all of your needs. The 200 is going to be an even better slalom boat but not sure if the surf and boarding wakes will be as good but it is certainly capable of those activities, especially with some added ballast. You may also want to look into 216Vs if you go used. They only made them for a couple of years but I think it has similar characteristics to the 211 and 200. Good luck with your search!

Thanks. I have read that skiing behind a 210 or a 226 totally sucks and that the sport 200 should perform all functions well. That said I really like the configuration of the sv211's and the 226. I am assuming the sport 200 should handle very well versus the larger 226? anybody with thoughts on new vs used ie how was the experience buying used?

For all the activities you listed (skiing, barefooting, boarding, and surfing), I would stick to either the 200 Sport or the 210. With empty ballast, the 210 actually has quite a flat wake at 30+mph ski speeds, and it is the best barefoot boat for wake crossings that they currently offer. If you're mostly a boom person or off to one side of the wake, then the 200 Sport is fine (the stepped hull between the wakes is a little rough). The 210 has been and continues to be a fantastic wakeboard and surf boat (especially with the new NSS installed).

We have an 09 216v which I believe is the only year it was produced. We could not be happier with it. We are not real good at anything, but enjoy everything. I ski behind ours all the time and this is probably the sport I am best at and it is a good pull for sure. I have never been behind a competition ski boat so I don't have a reference from that stance, but I never feel worried crossing the wake at 32-34 mph and can only imagine the wake gets better at 36 mph. We surf with stock balast full in the nose and port rear locker, and additional 400 lb bag in the port locker on top of the hard tank and two 150 pound fly high bricks in the bow. It is a real nice, clean wave that can get even better with more weight. I have seen more established wakeboarders easily do inverted tricks and other impressive moves on the wakeboard wake without a problem. It's a perfect size for our family and we have never had any issues with anything on the boat. mechanically it's been great and we are very pleased with the choise.

thanks. The more I look at the 216v the more I like what it offers. I think they made them in 2009, 10, and 11. Amazing how used Natiques hold their value as a good used 216v is close to the new price of a new sport 200. Has anybody seen or had experience on a sport 200 and 216V?

Be careful you are not looking at the straight 216, I am almost 100% sure they only made the 216v in 09. And yes, they do hold their value quite well. That is one of the best parts about owning a Nautique.

For what it's worth the 216V is in the 2011 brochure but not sure how many actually got made that year.

I am in a very similar situation - I am an avid slalom skier and my young boys love all water sports. Current vintage nautique was not meeting our family needs so I just bought a 2008 Ski Nautique 206 - love how it skis and am looking into adding ballast in the trunk with the hydrogate for surfing the boys trying wake boarding. My plan is to use this boat for a few good years and then pull the trigger on a 2011/2012 200v when the prices come down ... as I just couldn't justify spending $60k with college funds not yet fully funded!

you should try as many as possible. All of the boats mentioned have the tendency to meet your needs depending on how critical you are. If you are a casual skier and never been behind a direct drive, all of them will be fine. If you are focused on skiing, the 200V Sport is the best by far, followed by the 211. The 216V is a great boat but it lost a little on the ski wake over the 211. For an all around boat I LOVE my 211 and there's nothing newer I'd trade for. Your typical party size will play a part, also. The 211 does great regularly with about 6 and up to 10 on special occasions. The 200 sport is a tad smaller and the 226 is a tad bigger. But honestly, we are splitting hairs here and if you're not used to an inboard they all will rock your world. Also, don't count out the direct drive 216's. That is if you can find one. They are in demand for a reason.

and to give you a little background, the 216v came out to replace the high end 211 and they started offering the 211 only stripped down. The 216v was out for multiple years, but not many (09-11 sounds right). The next year they brought out an updated 226v based on the 216v design, so keep in mind there are two different styles of 226 out there. The 216v (and 226) are Great boats, just lost a little on the ski wake. If you are focused on skiing, the 200v ski's like a direct drive. And whatever you do, don't check out the 200 direct drive or Nothing else will satisfy (though some would argue the 196)

All we can do is help sort the makes and models. You have to try them to see wwhat satisfies YOU.

thanks for all the replies. Has anybody bought a 216v latley. What are they trading for? not what are they aksing but what are they trading for? What is the general bid/ask spread on a used boat...is there a general rule..ie dealers usually price their used boats 10% higher than actual sale price etc?

Not a Team but not bad for what you are looking for. I have been shopping for over 2 years. Hard to find a good "used" price, one that makes it hard to justify used over new, in the Nautique market. Honestly, some of the best deals I have seen were on boattrader.com. Of course, if they do not know what their boat is worth is really makes you wonder how it was treated.
