    Saltwater spraying around transmission area

The other day I noticed that there was a excess of saltwater in the bilge so I checked around the engine area and transmission and saw a lot of salt on the transmission area right where it switches back. It doesn't leak in idle or neutral but when I get on plane water just starts spraying everywhere. Is the seal where the shaft goes through the boat leaking and the water is just being shot up the shaft or is it something worse?

I don't have 'G' experience, but that sounds like a hose or seal somewhere that is failing under pressure. The stuffing box should be a dripless so you should not get any water in there, if I am correct. At any rate, it should be a warranty issue and I would take it in. Some dealers will void any warranty if you work on it yourself. my .02
      Good luck!
Salt is the devil, but when that's all you have - you gotta do whatcha gotta do.

Good luck James! I lived in Sarasota/Bradenton area for years, so I can understand the salt water issues. Take care.

sounds like the dripless packing is leaking.

Is there anyway to fix it without taking the engine out?

Yes. Not a big deal. Take the boat back to your dealer to confirm the problem and have them adjust it if it is leaking under a load.

The mechanic said it was probably the packing thing but they would have to take the motor out to get to it in the G. Is this true?

Tech at the dealership I work for had to make an adjustment to the packing on a g23 last week. The engine did not need to be removed.

Ok thanks. Do you think you can ask him where he accessed it from? That is the thing my dealer was having trouble figure out.

Your dealer can call correct craft and have their tech support give them any help needed on the corrective action for the packing

i had the same issue on my 04 SANTE, turned out to be some missing nuts and bolts on a coupling for the shaft. took us months to figure it out. only happened a when we would take off.
