G owners quick question

I had the ZR 450 last season, and now have the XS 550. I seem to be running about $5-10 more per set. This isn't really an apples to apples comparison, however, as I'm running about 1000 more pounds of ballast (was running factory + 2200 extra). Seem to be running about $35-$45/set...obviously, a big factor is how much I fall. If I'm trying new stuff or am having a rough day, it'll be a bit on the higher side.

I will say that the XS 550 is an AWESOME engine. With the extra 1000 pounds of ballast over the 450, I'm running at about 500 fewer rpms. Hole shot and turn arounds are no problem at all. The boat typically doesn't fall below 21 mph in a fairly tight turn around. Top speed, empty, is only about 3 mph more than the ZR 450. She tops out at about 42 mph, with the factory prop.

If your going to be staying at or below factory ballast + <2000 (extra ballast and people), then I think the 450 is fine. If you want to run more than 2000 pounds extra, then I'd say consider the 550.

Cheers man, it still has me torn between which option i don't think i'll run more than 2000lbs of ballast but its always good to future proof tho.

I agree on painting the grills. I powdercoated mine black. Really makes the look more integrated into the boat

I think it's a ploy by Iron to over collect from all the people wanting pulls behind his awesome G this year!

I wish it was a ploy . The first time a friend came out with me this year, we both went directly to the gas station after we rode. The tank was topped off before we hit the water. We got to the pump and he said, "is $30 cash good enough or I can put more on my card". I said $30 was good. When the pump finally stopped at $78 + change, it was followed by "****, here's $40".

Gas prices just hit about $4.30+ for premium, here in the metro...after yesterdays outting I know the tank is only 1/4 full. Let's just say I'm not looking to filling it up in a few hours.
