1999 SN gt40 fuel filter

Just purchased this boat in March. I started having intermittent starting problems and once it just cut out while
Underway. It would eventually always start back up. Thought it could be the lanyard so i always just gave it a wiggle. Last weekend while camping it just wouldn't start . Jumped the lanyard but that turned out not to be the issue. Upon some research I replaced the relays and boat has ran without issue on fake a lake and a full day on the lake. I'm hoping this was the problem but since it has been do intermittent I can't be sure. I would like to replace or at least check the fuel filter , however I'm not very knowledgeable on how to do it. Anyone that can supply me with a step by step with pictures would be awesome. Thanks.

1. Drain the Fuel Control Cell (FCC) (the huge canister on the front/port side of the motor) into a container you can get into the bilge. There is a drain plug on the bottom.
2. Using one or two filter wrenches, unscrew the FCC canister housing. This can be a chore if it hasn't been done before (unlikely) or the previous owner/servicer unnecessarily cranked it down. Be careful removing the canister. There is a fuel pump and other expensive stuff under the housing.
3. In all likelihood, the filter has dropped into the bottom of the housing. Whether it is there or in the correct spot just under the threading, remove it. Remove the o-ring gasket where the housing threads on as well.
4. Lubricate the new o-ring gasket. I use a little dab of motor oil.
5. Gently push new filter into place. It's hard to describe, but you just push it upward into the space under the o-ring. It kind of pops in.
6. Put a light coating of grease onto the canister threads (not in the canister, but where it screws on). Put the drain plug back into the housing (since there's fuel involved, I don't use silicone tape) and screw the canister back into place. Like an oil filter, I don't go more than 1/4 turn past hand tight.

Had this same exact problem with my 99 about a month ago. Replaced the relays and it has started first crank and ran great ever since...
