Favor to ask of G23 Owners:

I have a favor to ask of any G23 owners on the water this long weekend:

Could you snap a pic of the water level under main (t-handle/ballast valve) hatch when you're out boarding or surfing and post it in reply for me?

I've got a bunch of water coming into my (just received) G23 from somewhere and I'm trying to diagnose from where. Wanted to get a sense of what 'normal' looks like. Pretty sure the amount I've got isn't normal--bilge pumps run almost non-stop. Yes, the plug is in it. : )

There isn't a dealer nearby so I'm trying the DIY route. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

post a picture on yours of what you have for clarity. I don't have a G23 but also don't have a clue of what you're asking except you think you have too much watef in the boat

I am sure, its your drive shaft that's leaking a common problem with the G23 you will have to take your floor up to fix, so I let my dealer take care of, my bilge pumps also ran all the the time, and yes where the T-handle is should be dry unless you take water over the stern, mine always had about 6 inches of water until fix.

Yep, he is exactly correct. I have been on two or three G boats with this issue. Your bilge should be dry. Luckily mine does not have this issue.

Of people that have had this problem after you took it back in for service and they fixed it, has it remain fixed? I wouldn't want a repeat issue of that cropping up time and time again

Mine had the same problem. By the end of the set there would be 4 inches of water in the bilge. It's a problem with the drive shaft seal that your dealer should know about by now. It's a really easy fix it only took my dealer two days I think.

Same situation....dealer 200 miles away. 7.4 hours on the boat. 4-6 inches of water each "day". Raw water strainer housing has been wet each day. Afraid of tightening it too much and cracking the plastic housing.

There must be another source of water infiltration.

Calling dealer on Wednesday. Not even going to try on the day after Memorial Day....

Mine will be going in for same problem (I think). Other than that, boat has been largely problem free so far. Only other issue has been bimini installed incorrectly and it's rubbed against tower on sides causing hole in canvas to develop and rubbed paint off tower where bimini pole touches/rubs.

If it was the same problem on my boat then it the shaft seal. The water leaks in at the seal and the shaft starts spraying everywhere hence water on the strainer. Next time you take the boat out look at the transmission through the hatch under the rear seat and you will see what I'm talking about in means of spraying.

yes. This is the view of the water almost to the bottom of the t-handle after 3 hours on the water. Some just parked and riding(varying) speeds.

...and the strainer was wet around the top threads and the bottom of the 'cup'. There was some water on the 'hump' under the strainer, but did not see the drive unit while underway.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say not that big of a deal.

There are a ton of nooks in the hull of the boat, a lot of that water could have been inthe boat already. I have that much or more in my boat but also because we use out boat and water gets inside. Any rain, water from folks coming in the boat.... all of that goes into the bilge.

NOW, with that being said.... if you are just sitting... and your bilge pump running often??? yep you have a problem.

Thanks for all the replies and insight. You all nailed it--I dropped it in the water hatches up Saturday and saw a waterfall from the driveshaft. Glad to hear the fix is relatively straightforward--again, appreciate all the comments and help!
