    Now a 2 boat man!

After keeping a watch for the right boat, right color, at the right price for the past 2 years I finally found my new ski machine. Just bought a nice 1998 Ski Nautique in midnight blue and grey over white to tow behind my dark blue Chevy Avalanche. It also matches my 2005 SV211 pretty well. I'm pretty happy with the whole ensemble now! It is just about to click over the 800 hour mark and is not quite as clean as I would like but it already has perfect pass and is on a nice trailer so I am fine running with marginal interior this summer. It is a rare carbed Ford 5.8 HO motor, after the test drive I am completely happy with the power in this boat and in some ways prefer the simplicity of the carb from a maintenance standpoint on an older boat. Not sure but I think this motor is rated at 260 or 285HP, either way it seems to have plenty of power to do whatever I need to do.

    On the to-do list:
    replace PP servo motor
    install PP paddle wheel
    update PP firmware
    replace bimini canvas
    replace steering cable
    tighten up throttle control lever
    replace trailer bunks
    replace upright pads
fix trailer brakes (currently locked out)
enjoy water skiing behind a flat wake boat for the rest of the summer!

I like it!! Hopefully the last thing on your list gets top priority. If it were not for the kids I would be in this over the G23.

I thought the last year you could get a carb was 1994. Learn something everyday!

I did a little more research and found more info on the motor. Looking at the heads, they have the 3 bars indicating they are the GT-40 heads. Looking through the sales brochure for 1998 Nautiques there are 4 motors offered; this one which is advertised at 290HP, a non HO motor at 240HP, the GT-40 EFI Ford, and the Chevy Apex. Everything considered I think this is the best motor for my likes and needs.

I would agree. I've parked shopping for an older DD but carbed was a requirement....so I could hot rod it as fun project.
