First Impressions: 2013 SANTE 210 NSS

Sorry this is long and doesn't have pics. Stop reading now if you wish. I will preface this with the fact that this is my first prop boat coming from a Yamaha Jet boat and only my second boat overall. I have taken a Tige RZ2 for a test drive and a Malibu VLX with surf gate. Took the boat out for it's maiden voyage yesterday and it was awesome. The boat was smooth, quiet (our jetboat was super loud) and so responsive. We are newbies who are not pro (nor even intermediate) wakeboarders or wakesurfers but we like quality, which is a huge reason we went with the Nautique. Anyway...

    Particulars:
    2013 SANTE 210 NSS/343/1579prop/Seadek/StdBimini/1100s

    Fit and Finish:
A huge reason we went with the Nautique. The space seems roomy compared to the Tige Z1 even though the beam is smaller and just a little better vinyl and feel on the seats. The hinged seats and convertible seating wins and the seadeck versus the carpet on the Malibu was a preference for us. The VLX seemed the roomiest and softer seats but they were lower to the deck.

We did have a cut on a seat that likely came from the dealer but they will get that replaced. A decal came flying off from an unknown location and was found on the cabin floor after trailering home yesterday. Otherwise, solid boat, no annoying squeaks or rattles.

    Seadek:
We hated carpet for the maintenance to keep clean. The Seadek is awesome and super comfortable to walk on. But it is quite fragile. It easily nicks and dents. The air **** creates a line across the seadek floor. It did go away but I think it will become permanent, only time will tell. We still prefer it over carpet.

    Bimini:
We got the standard bimini which is a new design from what I understand. It is solid and provides great coverage over the center cabin. It's a little difficult to put on and take down and requires 2 of us to do it. It's doesn't fold away so we lay it in the cabin to trailer. There are no instructions in the manual on whether we can trailer with this on so I am hesistant to drive highway speeds with it up. It folds inward and there is a cover to put over it but the cover is a tight fit and doesn't seem to fit all the way on. I will need to get that looked at. Even if you can trailer with it, it would be a problem as we like to drop the tower to trailer, so the bimini would for sure have to be removed.

    NSS/Surf:
First off, sorry I don't have photos. Way too overwhelmed and excited yesterday and got busy. More will come in the future. I do have a video of my friend riding I may get up.

My problem. I need more weight up front. If I fill my 1100s the wave gets washed out. It's better on the goofy side but still not great. We tried for a bit and the wave definitely got better if we moved people up front. Then I dumped water out and only filled the 1100s half way and a full factory belly ballast and the wave got way cleaner (that's close to factory ballast with hard tanks; just slightly more). The wave was much cleaner and maybe just below knee height but difficult for me to tell. The goofy side still was much better and easier to dial in.

The NSS works as advertised on creating the wave side to side. A switch does cause the boat to shift a bit and you need to compensate while driving. It has 6 settings (0-6). The part that I haven't seen work yet is the adjustability. If I go above 2, the wave washes out. I think the higher the number, the more the NSS extends but am not entirely sure.

Overall, I definitely need more testing and with more front ballast. I already have a call into the dealer to get something. Not sure if I should go with ski locker or bow. Anyone have suggestions?

If I were to compare it to the surf gate, I think the surfgate was a little better out of the box but I didn't ride it, only saw it in action.

I highly recommend the 1100s as there is significantly more room for storage and worth it. It caused bowing of our divider so I went out and bought some reinforcement as others have done to put in.

Can't wait to get out again.

I have had similar experience with my 2012 210 SANTE. NSS was installed about 2 weeks ago. Goofy side works well at all NSS settings (0-5), and regardless of whether ballast tanks are filled or not. (Just took possession of the boat a few weeks ago, so only factory ballast tanks at this point.)

Where I am not so satisfied with the NSS is on the regular side. Wave is completely washed out at just about all settings, regardless of whether rear ballast tanks are either both full or both empty. This is with boat loaded completely evenly (ballast, occupants, etc), and even if passengers are shifted to port side. I can get the wave to clean up nicely if I drain the starboard side ballast tank and leave port side full. I don't quite get why there are such different characteristics on opposing sides - seems like the 210 has a weight/ride bias to the starboard side... Does the prop rotation on a 2012 210 not favor regular side surfing, or am I incorrect about this?

I am completely satisfied with the goofy wake - nice shape and clean under all conditions with both rear tanks evenly loaded. Normal side is not working as advertised yet. I've inquired with local dealer and Nautique to work on ideas, as the plates seem to be deploying properly.

I'd like to see a little more feedback roll in as these systems hit the water. I know at least one other individual (other than OP) who has similar issues.

If you're getting different waves L to R, then something has got to be wrong. I would get the dealer to check the system for proper function.

Pretty sure all newer Nautiques favor port side surfing so something must be wrong with the Nss.

It's not unusual that a boat has a better side than another for surfing. Centurion for years had issues with their goofy side I heard. But you would think that with systems like the surf system or surf gate, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. The regular wake did get better when I unevenly ballasted the boat to the port side (~double the ballast surf side). My guess from reading nyryan's G23 posts is that the best wave will be with a slight lean even with the NSS although I hope to get a very good wake on both side evenly weighted.

I don't have a ton of time on it so we will see.

Looks like N3 has been able to get clean surfs on both sides, although the first video does show the port side not quite as clean as the starboard.

Too bad this video is from the side, would love to see this from the boat. Looks big and clean. Skip to 7:50 for the wake. This has 1100s in the back, ski locker and bow bag. I wonder if I can get going with that configuration with a 343 and stock prop.
