    502 Python pictures

    Hey guys

i have a 2000 SAN with the 502 Python. as you can see in pictures its missing the snake sticker and the wiring is a little un organized which is driving me nuts!!

it's almost impossible to find and pictures of the python motor installed in a SAN so i was hoping someone could post pictures they have of their own so i can get an idea of how mine is suppose to look

    thanks!

any anyone have a lead on a shop manual for the 502 motor, all i can find is the 496 PCM manual

also what was the stock prop on these boats?

mine has a 4 blade ambush 14" X 18 pitch. not much clearance between prop & hull.
should I be looking a getting a smaller diameter prop? I was also considering going to a 16 pitch prop as we only surf with the boat & about 2400lbs in ballast

Congrats on the big block! 502 is the more rare of the python engines. No manuals. I was lucky enough to get a list of part numbers from the original engine build sheets. A lot of parts are shared with the HO 454.

You'll have to do some digging to get info on that bad boy 502! Had one, and let it go, but one day...

I have a parts manual, sure it's the same one that Zach has, but I also have a "dyno sheet" from the day when they published such things. I will post it when I have a chance.

Stock prop, not positive, but believe it was a 14" x 18" 4 blade. I would put the largest dia. prop you can fit under your hull, that beast of an engine will pull it!

Enjoy, you have a rare beast that will provide you a lot of enjoyment! Please check the oil level regularly, she will burn oil occasionally...

I was told by someone @ PCM that in '99, only ~20 boats had that 502 Python installed, don't know about 2000 model year, but given that the engine was a ~$8k upgrade, probably a low volume boat!

I looked and I somehow don't have any pics of my engine compartment. I'll snap some next time I am in the boat but that probably won't be until next Sunday unfortunately. If you are looking for the correct purple plug wires with the Python branding you might want to check with ski dim. They tracked down a set for me last spring.

Miljack is 100% right about checking the oil often. These motors burn a lil oil but are fine as long as you stay on top of it.

Awesome looking boat, you will love it.

Consider yourself lucky, I looked for a boat with a similar color scheme for 2 years. In fact I am still looking, but not as hard as I purchased a 03 with a EX330

PM Wakeslayer, he knows a lot about the 502.

Sorry I was anchored on sunday and was about to take pics but my phone was hooked to the stereo and a good song was on and then I forgot to do it later. I promise I will take and post pics for you this weekend.

Here's some pics of a Python, a couple of my ex-boat, and another from a member's Ski (!) @ Zach, I only have a paper copy of the dyno sheet, I need to remember to scan it in...

                            thanks for pictures!

so heres a ****ty lake story. I changed impeller day before heading to lake, what a horrible job to do crammed into the back to engine compartment. the little slot key fell out while sliding impeller on shaft. long story short motor overheated went into limp mode as i was trying to get back to dock and eventually hyrdolocked!!

pulled plugs and had one wet spark plug and one clyinder with water still under pressure as it all came out spark plug hole.
motor cranks over fine with plugs removed. one riser gasket looks questionable and the blocked off port of the gasket was open so my fingers are crossed that thats all i need to replace.

now that the exhaust is all torn out it made it much easier to get my head back there and properly install the impeller.... i should've taken it to dealer is all i can say....
i guess i should change oil to see if any water got mixed in & then do a compression test

any other tips on this eff up of mine?

a buddy of mine asked if i put impeller in the right way as if the fins were turned the wrong way??

i thought that the fins sort themselves out when the impeller turns, or is there a right & wrong way to install it??
