fuel consumption in g23 and prop question

What kinda fuel consumption are yall seeing with the 450 on the G23? I haven't paid much attention to mine just that it seems to use a crazy amount of gas. I know there was a thread about this previously but i got to page 15 and gave up looking.

Has anyone experienced with changing out the prop on them yet? What results did yall have?

I have been paying very close attention to this as I have been racking in the hours, I think I am at 36hrs. I burned thru $250 memorial day weekend...4 surf sessions and assorted tooling around, each session 1.5 - 2.0hrs.

OK, I average between 30-$50 an hour in fuel @ $4.10gal for 91oct pure gas. I know thats a big spread but it varries depending on our loads while we surf.

If I am going bonkers for the 4ft surf wave we will burn more:
2950 + 1100 in surf trunk + 600 other trunk @ 11.8 @ 3600-3800rpms. prop shaft angle here is terrible and that doesnt help but the wave is insane.

We can get a great wave much easier almost as fun with a lot less weight:
    2500 (non surf side 1/2 full) +1100 @ 3300-3500rpms

3400rpms seems to me to be the pivot point for the 450. Keeping the RPMs at 3400 and under seem to be easy for the engine. get above 3400 and it seems thats the point where you know you are drinking gas and the engine is working real hard. I know that subjective... but get in the boat and you'd understand what Im talking about.

nothing to add, but ouch that's a lot of fuel. of course in the grand scheme, gas price is peanuts relative to the boat. we wakeboard and surf nonstop all day for $50-$75 behind the 210.

Thanks nyryan thats about what I'm experiencing to. we do more wakeboarding than surfing and i havnt paid much attention other than i look down and half the tank is gone and wondering where it went. Has any of the other props you tried seem to do better or they all reletively the same?

I am curious about the prop as well. I would actually like a lower end prop but that will probably hurt my fuel usage. With full ballast and 2 people in the boat, I use around 8 gallons an hour wakeboarding. I have used as much as 10-11 per hour with an extra 2400lbs over factory ballast.

This sounds about right.. I seem to be using 8-10gph riding with factory ballast.

We really need someone to test the Acme 2219 on the 450 G23.

the 2315 was a full 3 seconds faster to 23mph than the OEM 2313. Huge difference there in the .45 cup drop.

theres another .30 cup drop avail in the 2219.

I just came back from using my new G23 for in the weekend and must say it using allot more fuel then my previous 2010 SAN 230 , I used a full tank every day! and with my 230 I used to fill up every 2 and a halve day.

I had the 450 in my last G23. Running a total of 5200 pounds of ballast at 23.7 mph for wakeboarding, it's about $30-$40 per 30 minute set...about 8-10 gallons. Granted I fall a lot, so spend a lot of time getting out of the hole. I ran the Acme 2315, and premium fuel.

No way! Unless gas is $2 a gal! Granted the 210 uses less fuel than a G but no one is going out all day and actually using the boat and only burn $50. I regularly go with 4 guys and we each take 2 sets with each set being about 20mins and I will easily use 20gals. That's about 4hrs on the water total or 5gal an hour. If I only use running hours it's 6-8gal per hr. I also know the 08 era star uses more than this. Anyway I'm also pushing much less weight(1500-2000lbs less) than a G so I could see why the fuel use is more.

What are you seeing for fuel consumption differences between the 450 and 550? I am curious if fuel consumption is a little better with the 550 since it isn't working as hard to move all that weight as the 450 was?

^^^ yea, more like $80 for a 3 person set with a properly weighted 210 @$3.30 per gallon. But this thread makes me appreciate my 210 ... A full tank o premium a day!?!? Cost of doin business I guess.

I am really interested in fuel consumption on a G23 with the 550 as well. I am considering getting the 550 on my next G.

That sounds about right to me. We go non-stop for 4-5 hours (only running factory ballast while wakeboarding and only 1150TOT while surfing) and only spend 50-60 dollars. This is in a 08 230 with the Zr6. After working the math we only burn ~3.5-4 gallons per hour.
