    Greasing Rudder Port 1999 Ski

This Sat, while going around the turn island into the course I notice the steering was a bit stiff. Yesterday it seemed it seemed to get worse. The steering is smooth and easy while stopped and going straight. Boat still tracks really well. It only feels stiff around the island under load. So I don't think its the cable. How do I grease the rudder port? I have not pulled the floor out yet so I don't know If their is a Zerk fitting. If there is problem solved , but from what I've read not all 1999's have one. If I wanted to add one , how do I do this? Would it be easier to just re pack it or should I add the zerk? Is gas tank removal necessary?

    Thanks

Sounds like it could still be your cable starting to go out but if you have the Zerk fitting it is definitely worth trying that first before you go through the trouble and expense of replacing the cable. I am not sure when they added the Zerk fitting but if you have it it should be right on the front side of the port if I remember correctly. Once you remove the back seat and center floor behind the dog house you should be able to squeeze a hand under the gas tank to get to the fitting if you have it. I am basing this off of my experience and foggy memory with a 1991 Sport so your setup maybe a little bit different. As an FYI the 91 didn't have the Zerk fitting originally but we replaced the port when it developed some play and and the newer part did have the fitting.
