First video using GoPro Hero 3 Black

Alright, here is the first footage using the new GoPro Hero 3. It is also my first attempt at using editing software so, be gentle with your critiques. Still trying to figure out which software I am wanting to purchase and used a trial edition of AVS which throws up an advertisement right in the middle of the video on occassion. I was fairly impressed with the ease of use and capabilities of AVS and am considering purchasing. Anyways, the footage was shot at Pickwick Lake and the ballast set up was 1100 in port locker, 540 on port seats, belly full, and 650 integrated bow sac full. Surfing footage was of my nephew and his girlfriend. We are all still novices so, don't make fun of the board.

Why is it in 4:3? In what resolution did you take the video? With a hero 3 black - you should be shooting in at least 720/60.
Read here http://abekislevitz.com/understanding-your-new-gopro/ that's the guy who did some of the demo videos for GoPro.

I got a Hero3 black for xmas.. for bang/buck video editing, this is hard to beat. It's got most of the Vegas features that you'll need for $60 (what it lacks from Vegas is all the pro stuff.. major post-production stuff)

Video was shot in 1080, but when it loaded onto you tube it didn't have the same resolution for some reason. Still trying to figure out this whole video uploading thing and don't know what went wrong. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Just a heads up, I tried watching the video but it was not available to watch on a mobile device. I think that is a setting you can change but not sure.

The resolution issue might be a setting as well but I am not sure. Maybe try posting it up on Vimeo if you can't get the full HD to work on Youtube.

Another vote for Sony Studio. We use Sony Vegas, Symphony, and Adobe Premier and Vegas is usually the preferred editor for most jobs and I think Studio is now the same editor with some of the stuff (that you don't need) turned off. If you get in to things then you can always upgrade to Vegas and not have to learn a new package.

And, great job for your first one. BTW, how fast were you going? Looked a lot faster than the 9 or 10 we usually surf.

When you upload to youtube with a song that has a copyright, they will not allow the playback on mobile. they have no way to advertise the track on the mobile platforms. I had the same issue with one of my videos last year.

We were running around 10.8 mph. We have slowed down some, but we lose the length of the wave. Gonna run this weekend with an extra 750 sac on the port seat. Thanks for the compliment.

http://vimeo.com/68359689 First attempt here. Hero 3 Black. Not real savvy on the editing thing. Still working on the screen title and transition thing. Used iMovie.

Add video editing to my list of things to 'work on'. This includes, driving the boat properly for towees.

Ot from original post, but ... Thanks! My lifelong friend and neighbor had a good laugh last week. We had a 12 foot aluminum boat and a 15 horse motor. We would pull each other behind the boat with a 10 foot rope. We called it "dragging. We would take a deep breath and go underwater and driver would take off. It would see how long each other could hold our breaths underwater before letting go. Our kids have access to $100 K plus boats creating perfect wakes and unforgettable experiences. They do not realize how good they have it or maybe we did back then.

No doubt! I can remember going out to the hang out spot at pickwick when I was a kid in a 14' jon boat with a 9.9 merc on the back with 6 people riding. Learned to ski behind a 17' Bass Tracker when I was 12. Kids really don't realize how good they have it. Gonna get out in the morning to get some new footage and start a new video. Can't wait!
