So I took delivery on Saturday, so only a day and a half of play time but bottom line I LOVE IT! I have had Mastercraft and Malibu so I have compared and this boat is second to none! It is a BEAST on the water and turns more heads than any of my other boats! Here is a decent pic but I'll have more up after next weekend:
Feel free to ask questions but here are some general impressions:
-the wakeboard wake is freakin massive! I mean I was a little nervous the first time out I have to say! LOL. (As such the rollers this thing puts off are sea-worthy!) Also the wake can be weight sensitive, so adjust your "boat meat" accordingly.
-if you are trying to decide between the 450 or 550 go with the 550. This boat is HEAVY! Not that the 450 won't push her I'm sure its just that the 550 would be more efficient. Again this is a heavy boat so if you are coming from a smaller boat this thing is not going to turn on a dime, the 550 definitely helps push her around turns and hold (and increase) speed.
-The NSS is sweet!! I surf more now and this system is the real deal. As others have said its not as big as you can get if you slam and lean (my old LSV 247 for example) but I gotta say it is plenty big for me and my crew! The face of the wave is quick! Switching sides was the best thing ever, no more draining and moving and on and on!
-I am 6'2", and I went with the Nautique bimini not the Z5. If the Z5 is much shorter than the "regular" bimini I couldn't walk under it. As it is the regular bimini comes down in the front just a bit and I've already cracked my noggin on it once or twice, however standing under it in the observation area was no problem.
-The board racks work great! The swig in just fine (I have 4 horn speakers on the tower). The top section of the rack will fit surf boards. I was actually surprised that my 5'11' board swung in without hitting anything!
-Stereo- so I know others here really go all out in the stereo department but for me and my crew they way it comes from the factory isn't all that bad! It gets loud enough and clear enough to be heard behind the boat and beyond if you like. If I changed any speakers (and I probably won't) it would be the interior speakers. The sub is adequate for feeling some bass but I'm not sure I'd swap it out, because this is a boat and stuff is going to rattle if you get too crazy with bass. So bottom line for me the stereo is fine.
-Interior color - When I was designing my boat online I agonized over every detail! (Thanks to PN for helping out!) I went with "gun metal" as my piping. Online it just looks like another grey color but in truth there is a bit of "metal flake" look to it and look GREAT with the gun metal main strip on the hull.
-"exhaust fumes"- yes there is a lot of "something" swirling around behind the boat but it isn't straight exhaust. Yes there is exhaust back there but that is with any boat, the "smoke" you see seems to be water vapor, it actually feels like a sauna. I'd rather it not be there and it sounds like there is a fix on the way but it didn't affect our surfing. (others may have figured out what it is, but my Xr550 is closed cooling except for the exhaust so maybe its just something to do with that system)
-probably the best feature is the built in regular size cooler placed where you can actually get to it!! Yes it got some use....
-As you would guess I already got stopped for my "safety check", everything was cool but I did ask him about my built in fire extinguisher and what he needed to see. He just asked me to get boat into accessory mode so he could see the green light was on beside my drivers seat. He did say I should keep a separate one on-board somewhere for emergencies. there were two guys on the wildlife boat and as they pulled away (I think it was the other guys supervisor) he said "a boat like that is going to get you noticed." Hmmmm, I guess that means I'll be seeing him again??
I think thats pretty much it for now. I'll probably have more thoughts after a longer weekend with her!
