Marinemax Rogers: "Big" can be ....... Good?

When considering a major purchase, I have always preferred “small” over “big”. Small stores, shops, companies to me have suggested quality, artisanship and personal attention. When I was in the market for a new wake boat I tried out the G23 (with the 450 and the 550) the X-Star, and a Malibu. I have a great relationship with the local MC dealer where I had had over a decade of fantastic service and personal sales care. The local CC dealer is Marinemax. Marinemax is really “big”. But after experiencing that wake, and finish I couldn’t help myself and went, all in with the G23 XS550. I prepared myself for a “big company” experience. Marinemax, after all, sells a lot of seven figure yachts, and I wouldn’t expect a lot of personalized attention to a "mere" six figure budget guy.

I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised. Casey (sales) knows every aspect of Nautiques. He knows the inside scoop on things before they show up on this forum. He has made himself available by phone and text (even when on vacation) and has made multiple trips out to my home to iron out some “new boat problems” (that turned out to be “new owner” problems). He not only knows his product from the sales side, he is a real wakeboarder. He throws down a massive air raley. The service guys are awesome so far too. (haven’t had to deal with them much yet fortunately). One weekend I had an overheating issue. I called from work at 10 am on a Monday. By 3pm they had come to my house, pulled the boat from a lift to a trailer, hauled it out, discovered and fixed the problem (fortunately simple solution) and had it back on my lift. Every step of the process has been great. I negotiated a fair price and an excellent trade in for my less-than-pristine MC. Also, after I got the deal I was comfortable with, the boat came with all kinds of extras like a full tank of gas and a bunch of big boat accessories, including nice lines, big fenders, an anchor that is sufficiently large to be called “ballast” and even a flare gun (presumably to shoot at tubers at sunset messing up my glassy wake boarding path). I do have to put in a good word for the choices we have in the Twin Cities. The sales people at Midwest Mastercraft, Minnesota Inboard Watersports and Marinemax have all been great. When I was shopping and the local dealers were spending time and money getting their boats to me to demo, not one sales person would say anything negative about the others’ boats. And when I told Matt at MN Inboard and Andy at MMMC of my final decision they congratulated me on my new boat. Andy said “thats’ an awesome boat, you’ll love it” Now that’s class!

Yup, I'll second your comments about Casey. He does know the Nautique line and is easy to reach when I have questions.

As for the service department, I called to ask a question and was put on hold until eventually the called dropped. He (Lucas) called back a relatively short time later repeatedly apologizing for the long wait and put us at his top priority.

    Very pleased with our purchase!

SJA- great to hear about good dealers.

Its ALL about the dealers now days.

I left Malibu not just because of piss poor build quality and a ridiculous amount QAQC fails.... but because of terrible service at 2 dealers, lack of ethics and straight hack jobs in actual work I experienced at 2 Malibu dealers. Both owners knew what was going on, didnt care. Another $80-100k buyer will walk thru the door and you didnt buy your boat here attitude.

Its all about the dealers. I only own a Nautique because of Phil, Andrew and the team at Buxton.

I love it! Now I know what to do with those old out of date flares!

Its nice when your experiences with a dealership warrant that kind of positive recognition. I can't think of very many (Auto, Motorcycle, Boat) dealership experiences I would count as positive let alone felt like sharing with others so I envy you.

I got my G from the Marine Max in Clearwater, Florida. Nothing but good things. Their service is amazing and they set up days to test the boat with Jd Webb which was amazing. Great company.

MM in Georgia is fairly new to the Nautique line (2-3 years).. but they have one guy on staff that's dedicated to it and a few guys who seem to know it well. So far, I've been quite happy with them.

The 'local dealer' thing is big, though.. Malibu dominates around here because the dealer is great. They sponsor a TON of events, a wake team, etc.. very visible.

Midwest Mastercraft trumps them all (in MN anyway) when it comes to customer service...

MM in Rogers is Basically a small dealer with a big brand name.
You would expect more personal attention. However I had a different experience. I emailed Casey and called on a 4 figure boat and no replies, dropped calls and no call backs for weeks, so then I called and emailed about a 6 figure yacht and wow, I got slammed with emails and phone calls within minutes!! Money talks so I am not surprised you got service plus you live right there. Try buying a 4-5 figure boat while living in Duluth and see what happens. The best service that I ever received was on craigslist, where the original owner called back and gave me the history. How much does Casey know about a early 70s, 80s Nautiques. They were not a Nautique dealer a year ago. If I had a choice, I would move Buxton to Minneapolis. I wish that I had the luxury of having the liberty of Brand NEW with good service. Its all relative and people flatter themselves over it.

Thanks Everybody. It is important for us to make sure we properly represent the product we are proud to sell. We are about to go on our 4th full model year of Nautique, and feel as though we get stronger every year, both in sales and service. Please remember that I am "always" available by cell phone (813) 230-0946; I say always with quotes b/c I have a 6 month old and 2.5 year old so sometimes I might have to call you back.

We have also created a lot of events locally that would be great for everyone to come to. Please see links below to social media to stay on top of it.

Almost forgot to mention. Shortly after buying the boat I asked Casey if he knew of any good local wakeboarding coaches. He said he would check around and get back to me. I didn't really expect much so I was surprised when I got a text asking if I wanted a private lesson from a pro rider. Clayton Underwood ( pro rider, learnwake.com coach and all around great guy) was in town for a promo and he spent about 2 hours with my family on our boat helping us with our riding. I don't know if that was a CC thing, a MM thing or a "Casey has connections" thing but I don't care ... It was awesome!
