When considering a major purchase, I have always preferred “small” over “big”. Small stores, shops, companies to me have suggested quality, artisanship and personal attention. When I was in the market for a new wake boat I tried out the G23 (with the 450 and the 550) the X-Star, and a Malibu. I have a great relationship with the local MC dealer where I had had over a decade of fantastic service and personal sales care. The local CC dealer is Marinemax. Marinemax is really “big”. But after experiencing that wake, and finish I couldn’t help myself and went, all in with the G23 XS550. I prepared myself for a “big company” experience. Marinemax, after all, sells a lot of seven figure yachts, and I wouldn’t expect a lot of personalized attention to a "mere" six figure budget guy.
I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised. Casey (sales) knows every aspect of Nautiques. He knows the inside scoop on things before they show up on this forum. He has made himself available by phone and text (even when on vacation) and has made multiple trips out to my home to iron out some “new boat problems” (that turned out to be “new owner” problems). He not only knows his product from the sales side, he is a real wakeboarder. He throws down a massive air raley. The service guys are awesome so far too. (haven’t had to deal with them much yet fortunately). One weekend I had an overheating issue. I called from work at 10 am on a Monday. By 3pm they had come to my house, pulled the boat from a lift to a trailer, hauled it out, discovered and fixed the problem (fortunately simple solution) and had it back on my lift. Every step of the process has been great. I negotiated a fair price and an excellent trade in for my less-than-pristine MC. Also, after I got the deal I was comfortable with, the boat came with all kinds of extras like a full tank of gas and a bunch of big boat accessories, including nice lines, big fenders, an anchor that is sufficiently large to be called “ballast” and even a flare gun (presumably to shoot at tubers at sunset messing up my glassy wake boarding path). I do have to put in a good word for the choices we have in the Twin Cities. The sales people at Midwest Mastercraft, Minnesota Inboard Watersports and Marinemax have all been great. When I was shopping and the local dealers were spending time and money getting their boats to me to demo, not one sales person would say anything negative about the others’ boats. And when I told Matt at MN Inboard and Andy at MMMC of my final decision they congratulated me on my new boat. Andy said “thats’ an awesome boat, you’ll love it” Now that’s class!
