    ACME 856

    I read the post Luke did on his comparison of the 3 different acme props. It was very good but I still have a couple of questions.

    I am looking at either the 644 or 856. I a leaning toward the 856.

    Does anyone know the top speed they are getting on the 856.

    Also how is the gas consumtion compared to the 644. I assume I am going to use more gas since I will be turning higher RPMs.

    The boat I am looking to put it on is a 97 Super Sport with the GT-40 engine and I am running 2300lbs plus people.

    Any other info would also be welcomed. Thanks

    I run the 644 on my 2001 san withover 2500 pds of ballast, 2-4 guys etc. Planes much quicker and doesnt run out of top end. I can still keep up with my buddies 211 team and 226 without any problems, actually pulls away from a stand still, of course the tanks and bags are empty.

      Mike-d thanks for the input. What was your original prop?

      I checked my current prop and it is a OJ 14x18. It does ok but I would like better. I am at around 3000-3100 rpm pulling at 24-24.5 mph while riding. The gas consumtion isn't too bad. I would like a little better hole shot and better speed holding ability, especially when I add more poeple. The other day I had 2300lbs plus 7-8 people in the boat and it was a little tough to hold the speed. Anyone else have any experience they would like to share.

        Top end is around 30-37. Could probably go faster, but I'm not comfortable getting my RPMs any higher. That's only about 1000lbs weight. I don't push it anywhere close to that when I have it fully weighted.

        I don't notice a huge difference in gas consumption. When you're driving around with 2000+ lbs and people it seems to drain pretty fast with our without that particular prop.

          I am running a similar setup, 2300 lbs on a 95 SS. I was also thinking of going with the 856. Please let us know how whichever of the two props you go with performs.

              I usually go by the sound of the boat. Not sure what my RPMs are at riding speed. I'll have to look again when I'm out this weekend, but I'm pretty sure when I'm running towards the top end with minimal weight it's right around 4000.

              Weight: we typically run right around 2000lbs plus 2-5 people.

              No clue on MPH, put about a tank through a day if we spend a lot of time on the water.
